    Hi Poppy

My partners PIP award is currently in the appeal stage as a recent review determined that she was fit for work, even though we both know she isn't. My PIP award has now ended and I've been told that I have to reapply, which is currently in progress. We receive no other benefits other than housing and council tax benefit.

Do you know if this would have any impact on the amount of ESA we should be getting?

PIP has got nothing to with whether someone is fit for work or not.

If you both get PIP Daily Living again in the future your ESA entitlement would increase because you would be entitled to a coupleSevere Disability Premium (if there are no other adults living with you and no one claims Carer’s Allowance for looking after either of you).

How much ESA are you getting?

  • We are currently getting £118.90 per week.

No obvious explanation for that amount. Is anything being deducted from it for debts? Do you have any other income?

  • I am being deducted about £9.00 a week for a social fund loan, and we have no other income.

That amount doesn't make any sense. My advice is to find out how much you're being deducted exactly for the loan and whether there's any other deductions. They open at 8 on Monday, ring them then.

Income based award for single person on income based ESA in Support Group would be £128.45. Less £9.55/week would be £118.90. I wonder if they’ve processed your claim without including your partner. Hopefully you’ll get it sorted when you ring them.

    Thanks for your comments.
The odd thing is that I’m pretty sure that the paperwork sent to me from the DWP, which shows their workings out, states my claim is worked out as a couple. I’ll double check tomorrow, but either way it seems that the amount I’m getting is still low and does warrant calling them on Monday. And the £9.55 deduction amount you stated sounds like the amount they are taking from my benefits.
I’ll give them a call and update this post with my findings.
    Thanks again for your help.
