Is it really such a problem to plug a vacuum cleaner into those conveniently located power sockets?

It wouldn't seem like it, but we picked up a cordless Makita vac because it was cheap and uses the same batteries as my power tools, expecting to use it for cleaning up after DIY jobs etc. It's nowhere near as effective as a Dyson, but its so convenient to just reach in the cupboard, use it and put it back that it tends to get used right away, whereas with the big clunky Dyson with it's loops of flex, you think 'I'll deal with that later' and 'later' never comes.

Had a look on Amazon to see what sort of reviews it gets.

    79% give it 5 stars.

    This was the least complimentary:

What a joke. Anyone who buys this deserves to pay £50,000 for it.

    1. Made in Malaysia. Nothing British about it.
    2. 6 minutes of runtime. 6.
    3. Non removable batteries.
    4. Tiny capacity.
    5. Messy non-hygienic emptying.
    6. Ridiculous price. Outrageous joke. £600!!!
    7. Cheap creaky plastic build.
    8. Filters to wash. Despite what they say.
    9. Trigger needs held in during use.
    10. Suction nothing like a good corded machine.
    11. Battery performance will drop over years, but not covered by warranty.

Check the comments for the fan boys brainwashed by the marketing BS. Only when it comes to weak battery powered Dyson machines will you hear people talk about "more than enough" suction or using phrases like "medium is adequate" lol.

Surely the '6 mins runtime' is not accurate?

That review is almost certainly for the old v6, apart from the price.

No, it was for the V11, but the reviewer does not appear to have actually bought one, and looking at the comments he seems to be on a mission to trash every Dyson product he can.

I should have read the comments to the review before I posted this. :embarasse

And the batteries are removable, though you need a screwdriver.

You always get some bad reviewers or for that matter some who dont know how to use a product speaking in general about all products.

I do leave honest reviews to be fair most of my reviews are positive but thats because I read many reviews and not just odd one

After tripping twice over a cord plugged into one of those conveniently located power sockets, as a safety feature alone battery operated vacuums are No.1 for me!
That was precisely why I went cordless, having fallen full length with a crash and turned myself black and blue.

I got a very inexpensive little Hoover cordless, which has proved a lot better that I expected and I rarely pull out my corded Dyson now - the cordless was intended to be for quick daily crumb pickups and a short term stop gap, but it's performing much better than I expected. My family were all so impressed, they all have the same one now. I can do the whole house on a charge. It's great to take out to the car too - no extension leads over the garden wall. It has a powered brush in the head, which I think is a feature that really improves performance on these class of machines.

However, if I win the lottery, I would love one of the Dyson cordless models - if it lasts as long as my first generation cleaner, that's still working, then you'd get your money's worth over time. So I shall keep my eye on the v11 and see if it ever drops enough in price.

That's the beauty of cordless as long as the vacuum cleaner does the job good then dont see reason to go back.

I have another Dyson corded and haven't used it since November and I only keep it because I think in some cases the v11 wont work for me in in car between seats. I have a Dyson car kit as well for it.

Its so easy to whip round the house we clean house more often now and takes less time

Another thing is the head doesn't get clogged like the old dyson I have with long hair. I have two females at home with long hair. So I dont spend 20 minutes every few weeks unclogged the brush
