£51.93 spend for us so £153.62/£390.00 total. Food, dog food and some medicine as husband and I have both come down with a cold!

Got a fiver off with a Morrisons More voucher :D In the past when we have a money off voucher we've tended to get a few extra treats we wouldn't normally, but the extra stuff nearly always comes out at more than what we're saving!! So now we put the equivalent straight from our food account into holiday savings. It's an easy way for us to save a little extra and not buy more just because. Month's total will now be <£385 because of it.

All meals planned out until next Friday, so shouldn't be any more spends before then except maybe bread. Making some soup and garlic bread this evening in the hopes of it helping with the cold.

I have spent £22.90 at Lidl so £22.90/£100. I'm hoping that spend will last us until Jan 10th. We have a lot of frozen fish in the freezer. I accidentally over bought eggs. My mum gave me lots of extra mature cheddar and canned fish .A rough and rather uninspiring plan might look like:
    Breakfasts - only me, porridge,
Lunch - only me, canned tomato soup or sandwich of egg, tuna or cheese.
    Dinners
Sunday 5th veggie sausage, stuffing, roast potato, gravy, peas and carrots. Swapped for fish finger sandwiches!!
Monday 6th daughter goes back to uni, weep, sniff, Mediterranean fish stew, garlic bread
Tuesday 7th home made pizza, home made potato salad, salad leaves
    Wednesday 8th egg and chips
Thursday 9th home made fish curry and rice
Friday 10th baked potato, tuna mayonnaise, baked beans
Nothing in it, nothing in it but a ribbon round it .....
  • £12 yesterday in Aldi.
    £12/£120
  • With today's spend in L's, 2 months milk bill and chicken supplies - January's budget is up to £147.04. Eek. Only £152.96 left.
We do have everything we need except for Olive Oil which I forgot and coffee. I normally buy it on offer at £4 for 200g. It was in the shops for £6.47!!! I figured we are both back at work on Monday where tea and coffee are free, and so will need to drink less at home. I couldn't believe the price. Maybe I'll just stop drinking it all together lol.
  • Hi all, could I join this challenge please? There’s myself and DS1 and DS2 in the house. I usually spend about £360 a month on food, which includes all toiletries and cleaning products, but would like to trim this back a bit n hopefully put the pounds saved into my savings account.

My month started on 26th December as that’s when my A$da Cashback credit card statement date begins. I use this only for food and petrol so I can keep a better track of what I’m spending on this, plus the Cashback comes in handy at the end of the year!

I’m collecting a click n collect order tomorrow morning, which will see us through for the next week or so, so once I’ve collected that, I’ll be sitting at £224.70/£360 with two weeks still to go 🤔

I’m trying to focus on needs as opposed to wants.

A mere £4.55 spent yesterday & today, on a pint of milk, bananas, broccoli, red peppers & - something else that cost £1! Can't remember what, but something else fruit or veg-ish.

Still going strong with the leftovers! Some ham & some turkey left, which will make their way into pies very soon. Plus I defrosted the big freezer in a panic yesterday, as it was really iced-up, and discovered lots of "treasures" in there to use up. I actually wrote a list of the things I can base a main meal on, and will aim to use them up every other day over the next couple of months. Lots of HG organic fruit & veg, too, plus cheese, butter & 3 containers of stock. I hauled out a number of bags of fruit from 2018 and possibly before - blackberries, raspberries, blueberries & sloes - and made a batch (5 1lb jars & 2 smaller ones) of "freezer jam" plus some stewed apple & plums to make a crumble with for today's pudding.

So no excuses, this month. If I can't keep inside the budget with that lot to work our way through, there's no hope.

  • Good morning. First big shop of the month has arrived. So this weeks spends are
    DH snacks at work £1.71
    DH snacks at work £4.19
    Grocery shop £92.39
Total of £98.29/£650 spent so far. All include a 10% work discount and the grocery shop we had a £20 voucher. The total amount should have been £128.12. I would like to keep track of this total too so we have an idea of what our shops would be if we didn't have the discount and that we could still keep it on budget. I can see we have a DH problem already.

Just spent £75.37/£500. Basically a big restock shop - including 10kg rice, 6kg spaghetti, 4kg porridge, 6kg lentils and a year's worth of laundry detergent! Should keep me going for a good while...

  • Small food shop done today and £5.34 spent. This was for bits to make specific recipes based on meat we have in the freezer.

We weren't able to get everything we needed as there was a problem with the chiller cabinets so OH will go back to the shop tomorrow to get the rest - milk cheese etc. I will update once we've finalised the shop.
