Your experiences with last minute holidays?

We've never done this but are expecting to launch our new business in about a month and are exhausted setting it up. I wondered about just picking something at zero notice the week before to get some rest before it gets really busy.

We don't want to be surrounded by drunk English people but I'd guess most last minute deals ARE these sort of popular destinations? We'd love an apartment or villa etc.

I'd love to hear your stories and advice on what where how to find such things. We normally spend weeks putting together every detail so are not really experienced at package holidays let alone last minute ones!

Merry Christmas, and thanks.

TUI last minute holidays for January are on sale now, have a browse to see if there’s anything you fancy.

lastminute.com - a website designed for what you need lol. I did a comparison and one last minute getaway I was looking at did have cheaper flights than going direct to the airline! But always check.

I've booked a last minute getaway in early January. Booked 2 weeks before, £40 return from London to Murcia with Easyjet. They currently have a sale on, but even before the sale (I was looking at it before) it was only a £50 flight. This is to a less busy area of Spain.

Ibiza and a few of the other Spanish islands may be nice this time of year, party season is over. There may not be that many touristy things open, but if it's peaceful you're after...

Tip for looking - skyscanner - you can search for the cheapest tickets to 'everywhere' and it'll bring up some cheap flights - just check to see if it's an airline/airport you want to use at the times you want, but it's a good way of finding unpopular destinations

The two "last minute" holidays booked in recent years

Woke up early, booked flight at 6am, drove straight to the airport and a was having lunch in Nice. Booked a local hotel that afternoon and flew home the following day.

The other wasn't quite as last minute but after being made redundant, went home unsure what to do with my life so booked an All Inclusive holiday to Turkey leaving the next next day. I don't usually do AI but it was too good a deal to refuse.

Do other nations get drunk on holiday:eek:? Go somewhere in the middle east and the chance of people getting drunk are reduced.

We'd like to be able to drink. But I can't remember being anywhere with a drunken rowdy crowd who weren't English.

My point anyway was that the sort of package holiday deals available in England are going to mean you'd end up in English favoured destinations, and a lot of those are geared around drinking and partying which is not our scene regardless of nationality.

You can drink in some Middle East countries. It's just very expensive.

I agree to a point but it is a very stereotypical view. A few years back we went to Tenerife, the travel agent tried hard to sell us the southern popular resorts but we went with our instinct and went to Los Gigantes. We did visit the popular resorts and hated it and; yes we did see some poor behaviour there from a British family.
Just do a bit of research and find a quiet spot, most if not all destinations have a quiet resort that will suit. Btw we loved Los Gigantes, very few british families some nice bars and restaurants, there was one or two English pubs which we avoided but nothing like ones we've seen elsewhere.

You are absolutely right (we also went to Tenerife). But my thinking is, won't last minute deals be the most popular destinations ie mass market?

I don't have an objection to those places I just don't want to stay at one for a quiet relaxing holiday :)

With real last minute holidays, is there much variety?

My little hobby much to the annoyance of my Husband is looking at holidays we can't possibly go on. Take a look at Tui, I find their website really good for browsing last minute deals.
