They mocked him for talking to plants, which tbh I still find odd. That single admission in 1965 devalued much of what he said about the environment afterwards. My g*d I remember how they mocked Prince Charles
I bet he's never used a self-service till at Sainsbury's

A person proposing to take multiple long haul flights also thinks and speaks of themselves as if environmentally conscious and caring.
Yes, as I said looking at the picture as a whole I believe my carbon footprint is pretty damn low. Are you suggesting that by banning all long haul flights it would completely solve the environmental crisis?0 -
But it was our generation that started to wise up and take notice and come together to make change
Greenpeace, !971
I'm sorry but yet again the statistics just dont bare that out. Like pumping raw sewage into the sea the reason things changed Re: Landfill was that the EU was threatening massive fines in the early 2000's. The UK was the dirty man of Europe putting a massive % into landfill.
Yes, Greenpeace & Friends of the Earth were about but people just didn't care. Look the the outrage there was when councils were going to charge by how much you threw away or when they reduced collections.
BTW

Because Mr S, back then the masses were only beginning to understand what damage we were doing
And it was only a few that stood up and said, this is all wrong, we need change
WWF - once again, something started by our generation, The generation that realised what was happening and decided to stand up and be counted
The de globalisation protests - our generation
Everything that you think your generation is doing is on the back of our generation, the generation that was thought to be weird or hippy or just away with the faeries if we said NO
And VFM4, prince Charles was mocked for so much more then "talking to plants". His green ideas were mocked as the privilege of the rich, not for us mere mortals. 30 years later and we are all aware of what damage we are doing
Now the royals are mocked for talking the talk, yet still flying around the world - same as others on this thread0 -
I think any carbon footprint calculator would tell you that all your other efforts are completely outstripped by the long haul flights. I fly too, so not accusing. Have you thought of offsetting?I wanna be in the room where it happens0

Work in progress, or do think change happens overnight. So again, what are you doing to reduce your environmental impact? I suspect far less than many other over the decades.Mr_Singleton wrote: »Yet more than 20 years later the U.K. was still pumping raw sewage into the sea. Yes, human waste along with tampons and condoms etc. The U.K. answer was to claim that beach’s such as Brighton, Blackpool and Skegness weren’t designated as swimming beaches so shouldn’t be used in the figures. Oddly 9 of the 27 beaches that were designated as swimming beaches were still too dirty to reach minimum bathing standards.
So again baby boomers how do you explain this along with landfill, plastic, pesticides etc etc.
Personally I spent my time moaning about previous generations. Those pesky Victorians with their industrial revolutions.0 -
No, the suggestion is you are kidding yourself if you think you are not part of the problem.Mr_Singleton wrote: »Yes, as I said looking at the picture as a whole I believe my carbon footprint is pretty damn low. People still don't care. Look at the outrage at charging for plastic bags which shouldn't have been necessary. Complaints about reduced bin sizes to force recycling. Shopping for unnecessary tat is a national pastime which is replaced by shopping for green tat by those pretending to be environmentally aware. Sound familiar?Mr_Singleton wrote: »Yes, Greenpeace & Friends of the Earth were about but people just didn't care. Don't think Mr S is going to be replying for a while0

There has been similar outrage about coffee cups and plastic straws too.
But.....I do find that there is usually a lot of noise, and then most people pipe down and adjust. They develop new habits (like remembering to bring your own bags with you), and look back and think 'it really wasn't that big of a deal, don't know what I was so worked up about'. And then also have the realisation that they were being incredibly wasteful before.
One change breeds another, I think. More and more people are realising that they have a LOT of wasteful habits.
Of course, there are those who seemingly carry on regardless. Unwilling to change. I don't understand that mentality.February wins: Theatre tickets0
