Subtitles on Youtube videos

I am unable to remove subtitles from youtube videos on my tablet
Using the same account - they are not showing on my laptop
Why is this ?

you do not need an account to see subtitles (closed captioning), so try it when logged out. Why would you let youtube profile you anyway??? (I make sure my tin foil hat is secure)

Without the items being in front of me, my first thought would be different browsers?

Second thought could be preference cookies?

Subtitles on YouTube are not burnt in. You can usually toggle the "CC" button bottom right of the video. The account is immaterial, I never use YouTube logged in and should I need subtitles they work happily.

Subtitles that are burnt into the video by the author will obviously not be removable, but it should be obvious where this is the case.
