Illegal Credit Report Search - Capquest

Hi,


I would really appreciate any advice with the following:-


My Credit Report showed a Capquest footprint in October 2019. I have no outstanding defaulted debts and have not missed any payments to creditors.


I complained to Capquest 2nd December 2019 and was advised they had no record of this search!!!!


Is this an illegal search?

No.

You credit record is there to be searched.

It is likely a tracing search.

Why would they need to search my report if I have no debt?

As above - it's likely a trace search for someone with the same name.

I'm guessing the search is just a soft search anyway?

Just ask for it to be removed (by the CRA) if the Capquest say they have no record of it.
