Paying off UK Credit Card from Australia

I moved to Australia around 1.5 years ago on a 2 year visa which I’m hoping to renew soon. My problem is that I have a UK credit card which I’m attempting to pay off, but it’s proving difficult with high APR and fees to transfer money from AUD to GBP. The card is a Capital One Card and has £2500 on it, so not unachievable.

I’ve looked briefly at Australian credit cards, but it looks to be limited by your visa length. However, I also don’t know if I’m entitled to a UK credit card as a UK citizen living abroad; my plan was to get a 0% on balance transfers to pay off the capital one card and get rid of the high monthly interest on that card.

Does anyone have any experience here, or any suggestions which may help in my debt free pursuit? Thanks!

You won't be able to get a UK card if you're not resident.

Throw as much as you can at it. Every extra penny means the interest becomes less and less.

You should be able to reduce any fees and adverse conversion rates by avoiding sending the money directly bank to bank, if you use a transfer service. Have a look at the TransferWise Borderless account or search for the best option using a comparison site such as Monito.com

Just make sure your payment is identifiable with a reference to your own card account.
