Npower expensive tariff
Options
Hi
Trying to keep our bill down we have heatwise storage heaters , found out that our tarrif is 20p per kw whenever we use the heaters no off peak hours with Npower
Phoned Eon and was told they could not supply me even after they have done in the past.
We are not in the position to rip the heaters out in place of more modern ones , can I please ask is there anyone else using storage heaters and which company supplies you and how much do they pay per Kw sorry to sound cheeky

It sounds like you've got a restricted metering set-up that either you or a previous tenant has swapped to single rate tariff. Once thats been done, the suppliers wont re-instate the old tariff.
It's probably a good idea to have a look at this https://www.npower.com/help-and-support/types-of-meter/non-standard-meters/ and possibly have a chat with the CAB who published this https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Global/CitizensAdvice/Energy/Energy%20Consultation%20responses/Restricted%20Meter%20Good%20Practice%20Guide.pdf .
Energy companies don't want to continue with some of these old legacy systems and tariffs and are supposed to be helping customers sort them out, however some can be less than helpful especially if you don't speak to the right people. Companies should have a dedicated restricted metering team and they are the ones you need to contact rather than the standard help desk.
You need to identify what sort of metering system you've got - look at your bills, check how many meters and registers you have (some have two MPANS and three registers). You need to understand what you've got before you can sort out how to get it fixed.
Sometimes that will require some rewiring and or a change of meter but you dont know whats possible if you don't know what you've got at the moment. You may need to enlist the help of an electricianNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

The general consensus of this site is not to attempt to switch suppliers when you have metering such as heatwise that had 2 MPANS.
I see you were given further advise by Eon 3 months ago
Unfortunately, someone foolishly switched your supply to nPower at some point, contrary to the age old advice given here.
Now you're snookered, sorry.
It's going to be expensive as the moneysaving advice frequently given on these moneysavingexpert forums has not been followed.
To answer your question, yes many people have storage heaters, and they usually have an E7 tariff.
But your old heatwise storage heaters may not be sufficient to provide sufficient heat due to the shorter heating period/longer non heating period compared to the Eon Heatwise tariff they were originally installed for.
I suggest you start be getting some expert advice from a couple of local heating specialists.0
