Pool car question regarding insurance

Options
Hi everyone. Merry Christmas!
I have a question I’m hoping someone can answer for me.
I am due to start my new job on 2nd jan. my current hire car through my current job has to be handed back and my new job comes with a car allowance.
I want to wait for 2 wage packets before deciding what to do with the extra money (buy/hire/pcp) and in the interim 2 months my new boss has said I can use the pool car.
My question is this; I want to collect the car this week so I can use it to drive to work on my first day 2jan. What happens about the insurance? I don’t have separate insurance currently as the car is provided through work. Is a pool car already insured for anyone to use?

That’s a question you need to address to your new employer. Normally insurered for any driver or any employee, but no-one here can answer.

It's a company car, so it'll be insured by the company.

Remember you'll be liable for BiK income tax on it.

However, if you regularly take the pool car home at night, you may become liable to company car tax.

You may find that it is insured for employees of the company. I don't think that you will be an employee until 2 January.

Or it may be insured for anyone driving with the permission of the company, in which case you would be insured now.

As Car54 says ask your new employer.

The OP wants to "wait for two pay packets" before committing to a car purchase, so I suspect they'll get lobbed the keys on their first day.

Except the OP wants then before he starts...

Odds on they do not get them.
