Barclaycard still want payment after ppi refund

Options
Hi,

I made an enquiry about miss sold ppi from Barclaycard through Barclays, and I've received a refund. I thought I had a case but was still amazed to have succeeded!

My Barclaycard debt goes back to 2003 and despite paying back usually the minimum as often as I could, I still owe £1,340. The whole experience over the years has been stressful and has at times caused anxiety.

Last week I received a refund of over £6,000, but was surprised to be reminded by barclaycard to make a payment today. I had assumed that the debt had been written off automatically.

I can pay the amount off now, although it does stick in the gullet a bit to pay a chunk of the refund back to them!
Do I have any case in asking them to write the debt off or reducing it?

Of course you have to pay it back.

A PPI refund and the debt are two different things.

Why? you borrowed the money. You should pay it back. Its not a freebie.

none whatsoever. The PPI redress includes statutory interest for the misselling. So, that is your compensation.
  • Thanks,

    I'll be paying them then!
  • Just pay the £1340 you owe from your £6000+ redress.

Getting a refund of PPI (with interest) has nothing whatever to do with any debt you've run up on your credit card. Only the PPI was mis-sold, not your Credit Agreement.

The only way your debt would have been written off automatically would have been if the Bank had offset your refund and you would therefore have £1340 less in your hand. This would only happen if you were in arrears or default.

So pay the bill in full and simply treat your refund as having been around £5k instead of £6K.
