Company refusing to accept name change deed poll

I've recently been arguing with my mortgage lender (Coventry Building Society) as I failed security for getting my name wrong! Apparently I'd signed up to them using my birth certificate but I never actually go by my full name. I've politely asked them to drop the last few letters off my name when referring to me and they refuse.
So I've since been to my local council registry office and legally changed my name and have a "change of name deed" signed by an official at the registry office - for this I had to pay.
I've sent this off to my mortgage lender only to receive a reply saying it is against their policy to accept a change of name deed from the council and instead I either have to get one from a solicitor or the "UK deed poll service".
My question is, can they actually outright refuse to accept my new name and change of name deed poll? I'm pretty annoyed considering the hoops I've already jumped through to satisfy them. I've told them if they ever refer to me by my old name again I'll refuse all communication as their records are now wrong and that old identity no longer exists. They've told me they still won't accept my new name.

The only "UK deed poll services" are private companies. I'd try going a bit higher up with your mortgage lender and see if they will accept what you've got.
If not, you can 'enrol' your name - that's as official as you can get -

You can have many names so can't really remove one from your full life if you have ever been known by any of them.0

Wouldn't it be simpler just to use your full name for Coventry BC and use the shortened version that you prefer for everything else.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Yes it would be easier but that's not really the point. I hate my previously used name and I don't want dealings with a company that refuse to even add a note to my account to call me by a shortened version of my name. When paying £60 for the council to write me up a legal document confirming my new name I expect companies to accept it and use it.0 -
Is your passport in your preferred name? When I changed mine, I had a home printed deed poll that was just signed by friends. Some places wouldn't accept it, but the passport office would. Once I had a passport with my new name, everywhere accepted passport + deed poll.0

To be honest this may just be an issue with Coventry full stop.
I recently got married but they won't accept my marriage certificate on the basis that my old signature didn't match what they had on file for me.
Now they want me to provide evidence of ID with my old signature and go through a whole plaver of evidencing that I've 'changed' my signature for a name I no longer even use. Even more silly is we have joint accounts with them so its not like it should be anything wierd that I want to change my surname to a name they literally already hold for us.
I've had zero issue changing my name with any other banks I hold accounts with.MFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

I can see it's a point of principle for you but is it a principle so strongly held that you want to potentially change mortgage providers?0 -
You might hate your name but it's your birth name (presumably) so you will HAVE to use it from time to time.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
