Scottish Power trying to take my gas and electric account.
I've received notice from both my gas supplier and electric supplier , that Scottish Power have told them they are taking my accounts - and I haven't authorised this.
No documents came to me from Scottish Power.
How can this happen?
Am I the victim of data theft?

Call your supplier and ask them to file a cooperative objection to stop your supply being changed to a new supplier..
Probably just an error from a neighbour trying to switch to Scottish Power..Are you in a flat?0 -

Unlikely. At most someone who hates you messing around.
However since you have got no documentation it seems unlikely and is probably meant for another property.
Are your address right on the elec/gas databases.
Is your meter. (Are you actually billed on actuals).
Are your meters duplicated (either faslesly or actually).
Are you in a flat or other property with outside meter boxes with an idiot neighbour.
Any many more depending upon the circumstances.0 -
Probably an innocent mistake somewhere in the system, someone being fat fingered. Just complain to the new supplier about an Erroneous Transfer, and copy it to the old one as well.
Best that it's all done in writing rather than over the phone so that you have an audit trail in case it all goes pear shaped. You should expect to be put back to exactly the same situation as before, e.g. no extra expense because of a less favourable tariff with the new supplier.
Also check with with your bank and cancel any DD set up in favour of the new supplier.0 -

Good point about the direct debits. How would they get my bank details if it was an error and they put in the wrong house number?0 -
It's madness to give one's DoB to anyone who doesn't need it. Using DoB as a password breaks all the golden rules: they should never be shared, should not be known or guessable by anyone else (ever received a birthday card?) and should be easily changeable.0

I managed to speak to my gas supplier and let them know that I did not authorise this and will back this up with an email and they checked everything for me and can see this going through. Email only to my electric supplier atm, until they open tomorrow.
Any idea of an email address for Scottish Power to tell them that they do not have my permission to take over my accounts?
I would still like to know how they managed to take my account without using my name.0 -

DDs can be transferred when an energy company goes bust, and you're giving people your bank details every time you write a cheque.0 -
