Struggling through 2020

As the title would suggest it will be a struggle financially to get through 2020, well January at least.

I am a uni student about to go into my final year and waiting on references for a part-time job to go along with my bank (zero hrs) one.

I literally have no money for January & anything I make during the month will be needed and can't be saved as Febs income :(

I have £65 in my bank account with £38 sitting in Paypal to get me to 31st December with my OH's birthday on 28th oh and rent due around the 25th!

My credit report is totally trashed so a missed cc payment won't mean a thing to me. I have multiple defaults, 5 in fact (waiting on 2 more) as well as a few late payments. Come February I will get my first student loan instalment and will get the missed payment cc's back in order.

So there you have it the state of my financial affairs. Once I start the part-time job I will have £100-200 a month to through at debts and I will also be getting a very small bursary from the uni (hopefully), so that should help too.

Debts:
Nationwide Loan - £4888 - defaulted - not chasing yet
Nationwide OD - £778 - defaulted - not chasing yet
Aqua cc - £285 - not defaulted yet
Marbles cc - £741 - not defaulted yet
Cash Plus - £280 - defaulted - not chasing yet
Very - £766 - defaulted - not chasing yet
JD Williams - £1742 - UE
Vanquis - £500
Barclaycard - £400
Capital One - £200
Capital One - £195
Lloyds CC - £400
Uncle Buck - £534 - defaulted - settlement order

I am hoping to have a little saved up by the end of 2020 to try and do some f&f offers.

Hopefully, I'll keep this diary up-to-date, with my goings-on.

  • You could always consider a DRO, as it's done and dusted and you are out the otherside 12 months later. It would fall inline with you finishing uni, getting a job as I'm assuming it's not anything legal / financial based you are studying.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • I am renting and don't want to have to worry about getting a guarantor if we ever move in 6 years which we will

I wish I had tackled debt at an earlier age, so good on you. You can do it! Will be popping in to see how you do
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    Emergency fund 100/1000
    Buffer fund 0/100
    Debt Free (again) 25/072025
  • Transferred my paypal money into my bank account, unfortunately, my OH's Christmas/birthday gift was dispatched early (arrived today) so that was money out the account.

    Spends
    Tesco - £6.25
    Bus - £2.10
    Present - £34.52

    Total left = £45.33

I do however have a payment going in this fFriday which I'd forgotten about :j

Didn't intend on the bus spends but didn't realise the buses were on a Saturday service yesterday, therefore, I had to rush across town and got in later that plan so needed to hop on a bus a short way to get to work on time.

I have lot's of work lined up over January and I have realised I made a mistake in my pay dates from 2 of my jobs. Both are paid weekly (1 week later) but I only thought it was one (I was on monthly pay before now) and the one I did already know about does their weeks Saturday - Monday not Monday - Sunday as I'd already thought. So this works out in my favour, though with Christmas pay is pushed back a week anyways.

Awaiting my DBS from another bank job, this one I can walk to, oh and still waiting for the reference for my part0time role. If I don't get the part-time role I can manage on my bank roles.

Saw my uni timetable yesterday. At first, it was many 5 day weeks but thankfully, I was ever seeing things or things changed as I was looking. My uni days are all over the place but manageable.

    Onwards & upwards

Have a merry Christmas (anyone who's reading lol) 🎄

NSD yesterday. Not one today as out to a few micropubs

Got reference and link for my dbs so I can stalk that but with Christmas, it will take longer :( Usually only takes a week, Annoying as I have the update service but they wanted a fresh one.

  • You aren't going to struggle in 2020. It is going to be great, you are going to be in control and have a fab time

    Merry Christmas XXX
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • So took out £30 yesterday and came back with £22. Thanks to 2 free pints and my OH paying for the first 2. Managed 3 micropubs and aiming for 3 more today I think.

Hello alesthetime, hope you had a lovely christmas :)

Have you tried accessing your uni's hardship fund? That may help.
Also are you signed up to the DBS update service? I signed up last year and it's the best £13 I spent, makes life so much easier.
Have you had a look for any grants that may be available depending upon what your studying?
(I'm sure you have done these already but just a thought!)

I'm also a mature student and it's so very hard, but it will be worth it.. your almost there!

    What are you studying?

    Welly x

Yes I have the update service but they wanted to do their own one.

No grants available for nursing and the hardship fund at uni is near impossible to get - too many hoops to jump through. I can pay my bills anyways & get my SL beginning of Feb.
