hi

im starting a new job on monday and before accepting this job i asked taxcredits over the phone what help i would get towards childcare as i have 3 children 2 will have to go to breakfast club at school and the other has to go to a childminder for 3 hrs a day i will be earning £186 a week bf tax and partner earns £21000 a year tax credits told me an estamite of £156 a week but when i use the online calculaters they either give me £108 or £94 so does anybody no which amount sounds right or are they all wrong please help .

  • forgot to say childcare will be £100 a week
  • I believe the cut off point for help with childcare is £25k joint earnings, if you earn under this tax credits should be able to give you an approx figure over the phone. Online calculators are only a guide.

Sorry this is wrong and far to general a statement. Tax credits are worked out on the size of family and income for the last tax year, could it be that the childcare funding is being worked out on last tax yr so just on the 21k? When you have go onto entiledto you have entered the figures with both of your incomes?

  • hi yes ive enterd on both calculaters what both incomes will be. and on one get £94 and other get £108 but over the phone ive been told twice we would get £156 a week. at the moment we currently get £ 56 a week so theve basically told me they would cover childcare which is why i took this job . but they told me not to ring up to put my changes down until the day before i start work which is monday comming . but im really starting to wory now that ive been misled on the phone and i have to start paying out childcare next week and wont get paid until 26th. im really worried ill end up with nothing.

Don't know what the outcome of this was but it made interesting reading.

My dh and I have 2 cherubs and currently earn approx 28500 between us. We pay £108 childcare per week for the 2 while I work out of the home for 3 days. We get £36.50 CTC per month.
  • just thought id post an update

tax credits are currently paying me 167 a week which more than covers the childcare but this is based on what are joint income will be upto april 2008 so i am expecting a dramatic drop after april i think but will only need childcare upto august as all will be in school full time then so im planning on saveing the excess in tax credits to help towards childcare if there is a big drop .

Based on this post, I took 5 mins to call the helpline to notify changes in circumstances. I had 2 part-time jobs and now only have one so between now and April, my income will be less than I quoted to them at renewal time. I need to quote info on my P45 when I get it. At the same time, I took the opportunity to request that I check the amount I had put down for childcare and they have no record of my childcarers therefore have not taken into account how much I pay! Wonder if this means I am due some extra pennies? Need to find/chase up the P45 and get the registration numbers from both childcarers.
