0800 numbers

Apologies if this has been covered before but there are over 6000 pages to read.

I recently tried to find the the date I called an 0800 number. After a massive rigmarole with Plusnet it seems that they are not recorded on the system:(

Apparently they said the calls are recorded by BTWholesale but they do not have them.

Can someone please clarify this for me please and let me know if there is any way I can get these details.

Many thanks

I believe they don't from memory and a thread on the mobiles board, that said I've just checked and my Android phone (on Sky mobile) records them in the call log.

All calls are recorded somewhere, but if a call is not chargeable (as is the case with 0800 numbers) then details of it are not passed to the provider:

https://community.plus.net/t5/Home-Phone/0800-numbers/m-p/901187#M9408 seems to imply this has been the case since at least 2012.

Certain 0800 numbers were deliberately excluded at some point (Childline for example) but this thread below implies as as far as was the case in 2013, BTWholesale didn't have the details either:

Presumably if PC Plod wants to access telephony records to build a case against Mr Bang Bang, that's something different and they are presumably available. Everybody else though? Court order I would have thought.

The networks all have a depts that deals only with the police. They have access to a tool that can find anything but it's not available to any of the other depts. . .

    What "tool"?

Or have you just wrapped idle speculation as fact?

I worked for ten years as a fraud investigator with one of the networks. I was amazed at what we could find out when I joined, but it was nothing compared to what police liaison could find!!

There are plenty of times when no court order is produced yet the police still manage to get a persons mobile cell data.

The court order is for a private individual, otherwise GDPR/Data Protection/similar gets in the way.

Access to the data for the police was covered under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (Ripa). Mobile operators must by law store a year of call records of all of their customers, which police forces and other agencies can then access without a warrant using Ripa.
  • My iPhone 6 gives me lots of info on 0800 numbers I have called. By pressing the 'i' alongside the 0800 number called it gives me: Date, time, duration, incoming or outgoing.

    What about your phone?
