This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning
Up since 3.30am on my first day off of my holiday...sods law. Hopefully I can wean myself off daft o'clock soon. Very happy to be off for a good break now yesterday was truly mad Friday in Manchester there will be lots of hangovers this morning I bet
So lots on the list today....Christmas in the van arriving this morning along with a few Amazon deliveries for last minute gifts.
One gift I got for me with my birthday money is an electric carving knife which I have some reservations about....never had one before but I'm struggling to cut meat thinly enough now so hoping its the right gadget and wont end up dusty in the cupboard. Anyone have one?
May do some sausage rolls later but first the house needs a good clean.
Hope everyone enjoys your Saturday

Gers Sounds like you had a great day yesterday, long may it continue
I'm glad I refused to wait in for that coffee machine, I'd have wasted a whole day because it didn't turn up til 7pm. It's an all-singing, all-dancing thing that wouldn't look out of place in a coffee shop. A small coffee shop maybe - it's not enormous but it's not small either. Blinking waste of money. But money his dad gave him a couple of months before he died, so I couldn't really argue.

I enjoyed the peace and quiet yesterday afternoon. Just me, fairy lights and ScampHe led next to me on the sofa and slept with his head on my lap. I almost crocheted then didn't, I didn't want to put the main lights on

I have my poinsettias, I'd left gaps for them so the decorations looked a bit odd. They're in place and the lounge looks finished now.
I was annoyed with Little Mate's toy, the seller sent the small one and I'd ordered the large. The packaging had been opened too, the plastic bit on the front had been sellotaped on to the cardboard backing. For all I know, someone bought it, returned it because it didn't work then it's been resold. I'll send it back for a refund, I've already been to Smyths and bought a replacement. Not Bumblebee though, they'd sold out unsurprisingly. I bought a baddie – Decepticon Overlord (not sure if that's his name, or that's what he is, lol) - hope LM doesn't mind
I deliberately bought extra food, I want to avoid shopping for a while. I'll have to buy fruit and milk, but apart from that my purse will remain closed til at least mid-january.
Christmas organising has been really rushed this year, I usually start weeks earlier and enjoy the build up. This year I feel like I've been slammed straight into the middle of everythingI think I might write myself a plan for future years, I've never felt the need for one before but it would've helped massively this year. No strict deadlines or anything, just a loose plan that I can refer to if things start to go wonky.

Morning folks and thanks NELS for the early start Here's to a lie in for you tomorrow. Fine, dry and mild here again.
Typing this with one eye on bunnykins who is on the rampage, currently trying to scale my barricades into no-go areas! He is a little sweetheart and I think I shall miss him when he goes to live with the DGDs. I can foresee lots of squabbling between them over what to call him! He is a lop eared bunny, sort of fawn and white in colour, and very cute!
First job this morning will be to clean out the cage yet again! How can one little bunny make so much mess! After that there will be the usual pottering to do but, one thing's for sure, I won't be venturing near any shops!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Hope our absent friends are doing ok. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Nels - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark and damp here this morning, but not raining at the moment.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. Both boys went out last night, so both still in their pits, don't expect to see them anytime soon.
Dinner last night was disjointed as both boys went out at different times, so something and chips was the theme for 1 son and DH, other son ate out with work colleagues and I had fishcakes and salad. Not sure about tonight but won't be anything to complicated and I've already told DH I won't be cooking a roast tomorrow either, he was fine with that - however, how he'll be tomorrow is another story!
I was productive yesterday and got done what was needed, I still have things to do today - but nothing to major - I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the building society and then the bank as I want to make an appointment for a review - I have one every year to make sure we're getting the best deals.
Today I must marzipan the xmas cake. I also put a cleaner on the oven and spent some time yesterday morning giving the inside of the oven a good clean - it was more than disgusting - I need to buy another cleaner to give it another go before xmas day - that's how bad it was! The only problem I have now is the glass door is an awful mess and I can't find any product that will clean it - even with a bit of a scrub any ideas anyone?
Keep safe and well x

Morning all, a quick post before I get going on a couple of jobs and then go to work.
nmlc I use a magic sponge on the glass door, that seems to work.
TA your bunny guest reminded me of looking after my friend's daughter's rabbit some years ago, she had several and her neighbours were feeding them but one bunny had babies the day before and she wanted them to hAve a bit more watching over. So they arrived looking like little fluffy pompoms and two weeks later she came and collected beautiful mini bunnies, it was amazing to watch them grow.
OH has just gone off to t*sco and then m*rrisons, he wants different things from both. He's pleased to have the car back with a new starter motor.
I must start doing things now, hope everyone has a good day and thank you for the song tru, huge sigh of relief as it has replaced a rock song as my ear worm.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning and thanks for starting Nelski.
It seems dry here, don't know about the temperature .
Nelski, we've got an electric carving knife, we bought it years ago after seeing a friend use one. I don't use it every day, but they are very handy, I'm sure you'll find it useful. It's also good for cutting unsliced bread, I occasionally buy a Tiger bloomer and they are not easy to cut. I used to end up with wonky slices and loads of crumbs, but the electric knife glides through it. Mind, I think you can get them sliced now.
Thanks for the Christmas song Tru, the coffee machine sounds posh, we've never had one. I've still got a percolator from the 1970's, we don't use it any more though. We use the cafetiere now.
The rabbit sounds lovely TA, I'm sure you will miss him, as you say.
Yesterday was ok, I'm going to marzipan my cake today as well, and must go to the supermarket,
Hope everyone has a good Saturday.
Take care folks0 -

Morning All,
Nels, I had a slight chuckle when I read ‘Christmas in the van arriving,’ it made me think of Margot in the Good Life 1977 Christmas episode.
I have an electric carver and it slices the meat very well and much thinner than I can manage with a normal knife. To be honest, it’s my husband’s job as I am so clumsy it makes him nervous to watch me. I am the person who has run over three vacuum cords so I now have cordless vacuum, lawn mower and hedge cutter!
A day of braving the local shops to get the final few gifts, nothing difficult just some restaurant gift cards for the younger ones. Then I will try and get to see the parents, as was not well enough yesterday but I did speak to them by phone. Definitely, need to get some provisions in for them too. Then I need to work on the online Christmas Food deliveries for myself, my parents and my mother in law. Both sets of parents are elderly and frail. Also, need to remember to get to the garden centre to buy a plant.
Must get a move on, my hip and leg is causing me grief so need to give myself longer to get going.
Take care all.

Just as I was reading the thread Tony Blackburn was playing 'The most wonderful time of the year' by Andy Williams. :j
Good morning folks.
I woke at about 2.45a.m. for the loo and then was wide awake until about 6a.m. when I must have dropped off. I put on Radio 5 Live and learnt so much about world football - two hours of people phoning in from New Zealand, USA and a bloke in Edinburgh asking a new Japanese player at Hearts!
Now I'm dressed and will venture out to collect a parcel from the delivery office. I've dug out an ikea big red nylon rucksack to use as I still need both hands for climbing the close stairs. :j
My thoughts to all. Happy Saturday.0 -
PS - just to report that I've been out to collect the parcel and made it back safely. DM is still asleep too.
Now for a wee rest, already!0 -
Morning campers !!
Slept well last night but have woken with a headache, doesn't seem like I'm ever satisfied, does it ?:D.
Hope those who have worked their socks off all year can get a well earned rest now.
My leg is swollen and bruised sooooo much, that I'll have to put it in a sling :rotfl:. Mr Fix It will just have to wait on me hand, foot and finger toady...... Yeah right ! :rotfl:
According to Alexa ( she's linked to Mr fix it's laptop and phone ) the task for today is a pottering day and finishing off day. The hall and stairs need hoovering, there's a little bit of ironing ( mainly xmas tee shirts and a xmas dress for me) and there are some sweets left to be covered in chocolate.
I think I'll volunteer to be chief scrutineer :EasterBun just to check they're ok
:rotfl:
Hope everyone has a good Saturday and good luck to those heading for the SM's. No fighting over the last net of sprouts please.
NMLC I bought a glass scraper. It's yellow plastic "Y" shape with a razor blade in the top IYSWIM. Only a few pence and the best thing I've found to work after you have used some cleaning stuff. Doesn't scratch the glass but does get the stubborn stuff off.
Nelski we had a carving knife, bought as a wedding present, many years ago. I'm afraid it went to the cs as I couldn't use it, Mr Fix It could after a fashion ( slices of anything were wonky  ) Now I always get the baker to slice the bread for me and I can butcher any meat at 40 yards :rotfl:.
TA a bunnykins on the rampage. That made me laugh :rotfl:
Take care all
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Morning all...I appear to have the smallest hangover...I haven't been out with friends for a while to see a band and have a natter [ these particular friends] forgot how much fun it was
...except the morning after....copious mugs of tea to the rescue!
Today Ihave a clean to be geting on with [ all bits and pieces have almost all made it out of the house or in the area they should be so for once, it's quite tidy. I went through OHs paperwork last night before I went out to bin/save/burn and have put all relevant paperwork in a folder, there's a bag to burn and the recycle bin is half full. So another job done.
I'm liking this decluttering lark. Also have a bag with stuff to go to the charity shop which will get done maybe Monday. I'll put it out of sight upstairs...
Need to fashion something for the christmas cards, will send OH to the local It's-Got-Everything shop for some plain wooden pegs in a bit and then he can do the hoovering. I have some fancy wide ribbon I can peg them to and then that's another job done.
Right...up, up and away!!!
Nelski, I've used a carving knife in various homes, only thing I'd say is cut on a wooden board because the screechy noise and hand clang you get from cutting on metal or china is very unnerving. They work well though. Gers, well done on your hunting and gathering.Nanny, your poor leg! Chocolate is also a known medical reliver of pain...:) TA...overloading on bunny cuteness...nmlc, happy marzipan-ing! tru, thanks for the arol...your christmas organising sounds like mine every year except this year..have we swapped? Hey readers along...Salutation filled Saturday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
