Slow compoota

Just a quick question....

My computer is slow and I wondered if it would have anything to do with the 200+ photos I have stored in My Pictures on my compoota? Or would it be something else??

Any idea?

Please?:D

It would be something else. Without more info no definite ideas. You could try removing unused programs and having a general clean up. Have you got ccleaner?

There used to be a problem in older versions of Windows, where too many files in My Documents would slow up your computer.
It probably no longer applies, but why not copy your pictures to another folder on your disc (or burn them to CD), delete then from My Pictures and see if it makes a difference?
If it doesn't you can always copy them back; if it does, it's sorted!

  • Was it always slow? How slow? How much memory (ram) do you have? Which virus scanners do you have installed?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Not sure how much memory it has, how would I find that out? I only have the free AVG thing on it.

It is definately a lot slower than it used to be, I have done the defragment thing and deleted internet files, cookies etc...

Right-click My Computer - Properties - General tab.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up Task Manager. How many processes are running and are any of them using high CPU?

Bought computer brand new in August with Windows XP on it. RAM - we think... 149gb with 19gb being used. Would that be right?
