Beware ASDA Credit Card for Large Purchases

in Credit cards
This is my 'Name and Shame' post for the year:...... And ASDA CREDIT CARD (CREATION FINANCE) wins by a mile!
I have promoted this card for years because it is free, and gives 1% cash back off all ASDA purchases. OK, so that cash now goes down to a pittance of 0.2% outside the store but provides a really nice voucher to spend in the shop at, say Christmas.....
..... You've guessed it, there is a but coming... BUT
..... If they don't understand and stick by the rules of the Consumer Credit Act, they are not to be trusted.
I notified them in September that I had paid for long haul flights with Thomas Cook. Coming up THREE MONTHS LATER I have not received a cheque!!!! OK, they refunded the money to my credit card account but I settle IN FULL every month so I have been (and possibly still are...) in CREDIT with them for months. Endless promises, endless excuses...
They are NOT to be trusted for large purchases.
Irony of ironies, when I finally booked a holiday to replace the one I had lost (and still with several hundred pounds in CREDIT) it exceeded my credit limit by about £30 and it bounced!!! No 'Can I talk to the customer" no follow up call from their 'Fraud Department' it just bounced!
So, this is the start of my campaign to inform others. In the meantime, I will continue to use the card when I shop at ASDA (rarely) but for nothing else. Each time I get the bill, I will add one penny meaning they have the cost of producing a bill EVERY month whether I use it or not....
If I choose to go to the Small Claims Court, they would now owe me an additional 8% in interest..... I know how much that would be and that is how long I will continue to add 1p to the bill.
Payback is a witch......

It sounds like they made an error which they have now rectified.
Its also common for a single purchase not to exceed the limit, regardless of credit, so I wouldn't read too much into that.
What is the incident you're thinking of taking them to small claims court for? FOS would be an easier and likely more successful route, for whatever it is.0 -
What’s the point of this post?
There’s no rhyme or reason to it0 -
It was £1500 and as I settle the bill each month, I wanted the cash to shop around. Yes, they have 'rectified' but by adding it to my account and keeping it in credit. I had paid for the holiday deposit and the flight on two separate cards for a particular reason at the time. The other company sent me a cheque within two weeks.:rotfl: Older and growing0

Not sure exactly what you are saying but if you are saying that ASDA have refunded the £1,500 to your credit card and that your credit card is now in positive balance by that amount all you have to do is to ring them and ask them to transfer that to your bank account0

!!!
It was a warning to any who also use an ASDA Cash back Card NOT to use it for large purchases in order to have protection in law. I thought that was what MSE was all about......:rotfl: Older and growing0 -

I have rang them and emailed them several times without any joy.... Hence the warning.:rotfl: Older and growing0 -
A 'campaign'......really?
You sound like a petulant child.
Bet Asda will be gutted you are no longer promting their card.0 -
I wouldn't bother with any more 'Name and Shame' posts if I were you (assuming it was Asda/Creation you were attempting to shame rather than a spot of festive self-flagellation).0
-
Well if that's all you have to worry about then fair play sir.
(although I don't really understand what it is you are complaining about)0 -
I feel like I have missed something here, you want to take then to small claims court because they credited your refund to your card instead of sending you a cheque?
And you are complaining that because they refunded you to your card it has left you in credit (why is that a problem?)
And you are also complaining that they blocked a purchase because it was above your available credit?
I don't think you're claim will get very far if thats it.0
