Is it safe to put small freezer in kitchen unit?

Options
Hi,

I have a small table top size freezer which I have just put inside a new tall cabinet in my new kitchen.

It fits in snugly and is ideal cos the casing of it is old and battered and not really fit for having on display, but the freezer itself works perfectly.

However, I am concerned as to whether it is safe to be put in this cupboard or not? The door of the cupboard gets very warm and I'm worried in case it is a fire hazard or something?

I could post some pics if I'm not making sense?!

Any advice welcomed - I have tried painting the case of the freezer with appliance paint, but without much success :o:D

Thanks for your help. :)

  • Good evening: If there is inadequate ventilation/air circulation the freezer's compressor could overheat....follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • You should not try and integrate any appliance unless it is built to do so, Before long the thermostat will overheat an cease to work. This could also be a fire risk and could void your house insurance for being careless.

    sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for the advice so far - I don't have the instructions cos the freezer was a hand me down from someone and it's that old I cant see what make it is either. It has a fitted plug though so I'm presuming it's roughly mid-late 80's made (I said it was old! Well, as far as appliances go anyway!) Not that the plug makes one jot of difference - I'm just trying to guess when that 'fitted plug' law came in!

But it pretty much looks as though the safest option would be to put it back in the conservatory on the dresser unit it was on originally. :(

It just looks so ugly, but then again, so would my house if it went up in smoke!

Gonna have to leave it in there tonight cos it's too heavy to lift on my own and OH is at work til morning, but it'll be moved first thing.

Just hope I'm not toast by then...

I'll leave the cabinet door open tonight for extra ventilation.

Thanks again for your help :)
