Not a silly question, the card reader is from Natwest. Also used a generic one I had from Nationwide; same results.

I can withdraw money from the ATM no problem, it's just transferring larger amounts to other accounts that I'm being stopped from doing.

It has to have been ordered on the ac in question; it is the order and (maybe) the shipping that triggers the functionality - not the device itself or where it originated.

So if you're using your bro's (for example) Nat West reader it won't work until 48 hours after you order one on your NW ac.

PS A transfer to other accounts is a withdrawal - and is (certainly was) possible using the app without a card reader but limited to £250 IIRC.
And you can make transfers by telephone banking, too.

I have been using NatWest over 20 years, never had any problems from withdrawing or depositing money within my accounts or wiring money to contractors or internationally.
Guess I have been extremely lucky.

    AMAZING!

Natwest had sent me the card reader when I opened the account. I didn't explicitly order it, but your post got me thinking and on Friday I ordered a replacement. It hasn't arrived yet, but I tried again with the original reader they sent and my card is activated now. Could be a coincidence but this must have been it!

Should've known to ask here before wasting a morning talking to 3 different customer service people at Natwest! Do you work there? Either way they should be paying you.

They made a complete b*lls of an earlier switch incentive a few years ago - I remember this being one of the issues... :)
