Home Emergency Insurance

we have Home Emergency insurance provided by Allianz as part of our Lloyds Bank home insurance. The policy states we are covered for emergency call out and repairs from the heating, plumbing and drainage.
But when we had a genuine home emergency on Tuesday evening (water leaking from under our upstairs hot water storage tank and dripping into a room below through the ceiling), it seems we aren't covered.
I was away at the time and my wife called Allianz in a panic.
She was told that they could not provide assistance as she couldn't confirm the actual source of the leak (ie she couldn't see precisely what pipe or valve was leaking).
So, we had a crisis and a genuine home emergency and they refused to help.
I called Lloyds Bank to express my concern that their 'Home Emergency' insurance is anything but and not fit for purpose. They brushed me off and referred me directly to Allianz. So, I called them to raise a complaint to be told to go and read the small print. Seems that if you have a water leak and can't precisely tell them where it is, then they won't help as this 'may' involve trace and find work. And they don't provide this. But my home insurance does cover this but has to be authorised. Meanwhile, it is 7pm, water is running out of the ceiling and Lloyds are closed, so can't authorise assistance. Allianz just refused to help stating that they don't cover unseen escapes of water.
Anyone else had this? I'm going to cancel this useless policy in disgust

I refuse to have emergency cover, save the money away in savings account to use for your local contractors who you trust to come in for emergency work and who will actually come and not refuse because of small print"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Yup we had the same with Esure, leak found by our cat sitter whilst on holiday and they claimed they don't cover water escapes!
My fault I know, should've read the small print but what exactly is an emergency?0
