Whirlpool recall- refund from retailer.

I bought mine from Curry’s but they are ignoring my messages. I would like to buy a new washing machine from a different (non-whirlpool) brand. A lot of people are saying the retailer will not give anyone a refund in this case and even the MSE advice is that it’s ‘a long shot’. Could anyone help me understand why?
I always thought that since the contract is between consumer and retailer, any faulty goods are the responsibility of the retailer. My machine is 18mths old so I have no problem with them offering a partial refund, even 50%. I just don’t understand why it seems the retailer in this case does not have to help.

Because the retailer haven't issued the product recall - the manufacturer have. At the moment there's no proof that YOUR washing machine is faulty, and it would be for you to get this proof.0

Mine IS faulty. Whirlpool have confirmed it.
I still don’t understand how the retailer isn’t liable, just because whirlpool issued the recall. Surely the recall proves the goods were unfit for purpose at the point of sale?0 -
The retailer still has a liability, but with a recall in place there should be no need to use it unless the manufacturer fails to correct the issue.
If you were relying solely on the retailer, they would be in total control of the solution offered which is almost certainly going to be a repair. Whirlpool are offering you the choice of repair or a brand new replacement machine, if you really want a different make then take the new machine and flog it on Gumtree.0 -

Are they? I don’t think they’ve confirmed the replacements will be brand new. I imagine with so many to replace, they’ll offer used/reconditioned machines with little or no choice.0 -

https://washingmachinerecall.whirlpool.co.ukIf your washing machine is being recalled, you will be able to choose between two options:
A like-for-like replacement washing machine provided free-of-charge
A free-of-charge in-home repair of your appliance
Not sure like for like = new machine. Sure it is new to you. But a actual new one?Life in the slow lane0 -
