EDF Meter Issue and they keep putting up my monthly bill
I’ve been with EDF for a few years now and when I went to give them a meter reading last year the display wasn’t working. I let them know and they made an appointment to come out and fix it. They then cancelled the appointment and told me to call back and rearrange but then said they couldn’t give me an appointment and that I’d have to call back, apparently they can’t call me when they have an appointment. This is all the worse as the meter is outside so they could come whenever anyone is in the area. By the time they eventually came out it hadn’t been working for quite some time. They increased my monthly payment by £100 (more than double what I’d been paying before) as they said I’d used lots more electricity than I realised. They’ve now said they’ve made another mistake and have more than doubled it. I can’t afford this and as I can’t see what power they’re saying I used before (as the old meter was broken so I couldn’t see the reading) and they’ve been so bad and made so many mistakes I don’t even know if they’re figures now are correct. What should I do?

When was the meter replaced ? The installer will have left a card but the new meter would probably have read 00000.0 What is it now ?
You should be able to argue that the present average consumption could be applied to the period when it wasn't working.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
The first thing you should do is make a formal complaint. They should tell you on what basis they are calculating your bills. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I found edf very unhelpful and not interested, all they want is you to pay what they tell you.
Like ectophile says make a formal complaint so you can get to deadlock quickly then involve the ombudsman only then do edf seem to do anything.
In the mean time take lots of meter readings and try and find old bills to show what your normal usage is.0
