Airtight containers

After reading quite a few posts on here which mention biscuits and cakes keep really well in airtight containers I wondered what you all use and where you got them from?

I currently use the old quality street tins etc for the baking I do, and whilst they are fine for when I take things into work I'm starting to wonder if maybe I can keep things longer in airtight containers

It may not please the guys at work if their supply of home made goodies dries up but it would certainly mean I could eat more of the stuff I make and it would work out cheaper. Currently I have to make extra so theres enough to go round at work when in reality I only wanted to make a little amount just for me:o

Thanks

For a cake, I would wrap in foil and then into the quality street tin.
I also have some large tupperware style clear ones, think I got them at the supermarket....not the lock and click ones, just a push down lid.

  • I have a lock'n'lock cake box, and several samller boxes to store biscuits, flapjacks and the like.

    Big thread on lock'n'lock here.

I have the lock n lock boxes too, but I also freeze cakes, muffins and scones. That way I take out just what we need over a couple of days at a time. For things like banana bread, I cut this in half and wrap in foil. Half goes in the cake box and half goes in the freezer.

It's useful to do this for when you are too busy to bake.

Those foil lined cardboard tubes that you get Twiglets etc. in at this time of year make excellent cookie stores as they have the correct diameter. Make sure you clean them 1st as Twiglets are pretty powerful.
