  • can I come to your house?!  (sorry, that sounds weird, I just mean because it will be all nice and cosy and smell nice!).

Yes, a 1k headstart for retirement year would be fabulous!

Been reading that blog you set the link out for - definitely food for thought

The 1k will be a great cushion to have.  Must admit to buying the Lidl Christmas candles, I like the apple and cinnamon smelling ones.

Thank you SH, Rebecca and Lucielle - I think that many of us reforming spenders have a fondness for candles.  There was a time when I could easily find a way to justify treating myself to a Jo Malone candle 🤷‍♀️
I did an online as*a shop today- I need to do one a month in order to get the posh cat food of choice for the moggies.  I get so distracted in the shop and lots of unintended items make it into the trolley.  I also bought a box of twinnings glow teabags, swopped from fresh blueberries to frozen as fresh are getting very pricey an I ended up with some furry specimens because I didn't eat them quickly enough.  At least there's room in the freezer now!
    32 weeks to go!

  • Oh yes.  Jo Malone now never gets bought - I have been bought the odd one as a gift (I think I have half a one in storage somewhere) and I am very particular about when I light it!  I actually need to go and get a candle today to mask the stench of the DC's poos!!!!!

Online shop is probably still going to save you overall.  Plus, this time of year treats are sort of mandatory!

So so lucky to be retiring soon.  Not to hijack your thread but atmosphere at my work is just awful at the moment, which is so sad as I used to enjoy it.  All caused by two people and not going to change any time soon.

Yes indeed SH - the retirement clock is ticking.

Rebecca - work dynamics can change so quickly.  Same is happening in my team - a couple of new people who have very different ways of communicating and behaving.  We all work remotely which means we aren't coupled up in an office together but it does make it harder to develop good working relationships.

I've enjoyed staying home today - weather has been horrid but it's nice and cosy here.

I've gone £5.17 over my food budget this month.  I was convincing myself that this was ok (possibly even a good result) but it's a budget for a reason not a flexible best estimate.  I read nannygladys' diary and she spends £15 a week on food so my so called little overspend is not so little in relation to other people.  That said though, I am getting better with food spending - I've meal planned this week using freezer, tried to buy seasonal veggies and have chosen 2 meat free meals.  If I have a low spending start to December I can factor in some Christmas/new year higher spends.

  • @savingholmes - mine too.  And to think, it is basically wasteful as it comes out the other end - ha ha!

     :D

I'm improving but still a long way to go. Put it this way - I'm mostly on my own now but still have 2 rammed freezer sections of fridge freezers... One fridge is pretty full - the other still has Ex's stuff in and needs cleaning out... Another day's job... I also have a full tin cupboard... Ah well - just have to call them 'stores' and then we're all good.
