I've always understood "biting the bullet" to come from the old military tradition of giving someone a spent bullet to bite down on while they were having a painful medical procedure carried out in the days before anaesthetic was a thing - an alternative might also have been a leather strap - so I think you're safe with that one!

I'm not sure whether to hope the sunglasses turn up, or hope the opposite...!

@EssexHebridean - there was an article in my dad's daily mail last week that said expressions like bite the bullet represent a violence based society.  I stomped around after reading it because of the potential loss of history that enriches our language.  So I made sure I bit the bullet!
Thank you for your sunglasses stories - still haven't found the original pair but I'm very happy with the new ones.  Lovely crisp, polarised lenses which will be great if and when the sun shines again.

I'm plodding through a fairly complex process that will be advantageous in the long run but is fiddly and will have an initial cost associated with it.  It involves transferring a property asset into my name so I'm being guided by accountants and solicitors and will have a bill for their fees.  We are at the reviewing and signing paperwork stage now with the aim to be finalised by 31st May.   I keep reminding myself that it's short term pain for long term gain.

Thank you @savingholmes - antihero flurry of paperwork to sign this weekend and mo ey to be paid by the end of the month and then it should be finalised.  A bit of a faff and a bit costly but it will be worth it in the long run.

just back from a lovely week away.  We were so lucky with the weather and had lovely sunshine every day despite the advance weather forecast telling us it would be overcast every day.

I'll do the totting up of the finances tomorrow which I think will show that we overspent.  However, we've brought back plenty of wine and beer which can be offset against the grocery budget.  Moreover we've had lots of fun, made nice memories and feel both energised and chilled.

thank you @savingholmes and @Sun_Addict - we had a great holiday.  We were in the UK but because we travelled on a car ferry we counted it as an overseas trip 🤷‍♀️

    Holiday money based reflections
i shopped from home and took posh toiletries that I got for Christmas.  Mouton and Brown which I think is the chosen bathing brand of sun addict's dog!
We took overnight oats and flasks of tea for the ferry crossing (all 25 minutes of it)
we were self catering and bought our provisions at Aldi and brought some home with us

Because we are still feeling relaxed we are trying to avoid going to the shops for a couple more days.  We have bread, milk, fruit and veg so it isn't too difficult.  Oh and a sharing bag of maltezers that we brought home so all is well in relation to chocolate treats

The overspend on budget is explained by the cat care costs which I forgot to factor in ....lesson learned for next holiday

I now need to build up the holiday pot trade for a long weekend break in July.
