Thank you! So today I spoke with my boss and told her I was going to be leaving. They were surprised and want to have a further conversation with me about it but I'VE DONE IT!Feels strange - quite low key but feeling liberated and quietly excited.
I read somewhere that your work can advertise and replace you when you leave but your family and friends can't replace you ever - so true! So, actual end date to be confirmed but the clock is ticking.
I'm going flat out to pay my council tax off as fast as I possibly can. It's a psychological boost for the first few months of retirement to not have my biggest monthly bill. I've got £75 in my "accumulation of marginal gains" pot - that equals 2% or two apples or leaves on my 100% tree. There's no financial benefit in paying it off the bill straight away - I think I'll wait til I've got £150 to pay it. I'm hoping to pay £500 at the start of May which includes some of my council tax re-banding refund. I will have paid £1000 in 2 months. Blooming council tax!5 -
So exciting! Congrats for being able to do it!

Thank you all for your good wishes - such a peculiar feeling - so close to freedom, yet it still feels slightly unreal. My boss has asked for a meeting on Wednesday to discuss - not sure what there is to discuss other than leaving date. They said they would have liked a longer lead in time - then they should have made my notice period longer is my view.
🐙 have emailed that this months payment is unchanged. My fix didn't end til the 20th April and I'm £200 in credit which I think explains it. Following Foxgloves' approach we are trying to make little savings - 2 side lamps on in the lounge (instead of 4), hardly using the oven - using slow cooker and air fryer instead. Gently reminded OH that wearing shorts, t shirt and bare feet might be a contributory factor to him feeling "absolutely freezing, I'm going to put the heating on" 😵💫
We had unplanned visitors on Saturday which was lovely. The old me would have rushed to the shops and spent a small fortune on food and drink. Instead we made a lovely chilli, rice, sweet corn aioli and a tomato, onion and coriander salsa. I made chocolate brownies which we had with ice cream and raspberries. Already had wine in the fridge for the weekend. So no additional spend, everything from stores and a really nice evening. Great result!!!!6 -
🐙 have also kept my direct debit the same. Also in credit so suspect this is why. A reprieve for one more month anyway 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2
