vertical unvented cylinder in empty loft

Plumber suggests there is a risk of cylinder toppling as there is no supporting wall around tall cylinder in Loft. Hence he recommends horizontal cylinder.
I am not quite sure as havent read anywhere this!
I am sure he can support vertical cylinder so that it does not fall?

Probably sensibly thinks that you will use it to store objects against - I can't see it toppling over by itself, but could fall over with some pushing or with weight of other things leaning against it.
I would more worried about the total weight of the cylinder in a loft space, joists unlikely to be designed to take that weight. Horizontal cylinder might help to distribute the weight more, but could still be an issue.0 -
Why would it topple any more readily than the hot water cylinder in the average airing cupboard? They just stand on boards / joists, in a cupboard usually crammed with clothes etc. I do accept that if one did topple, the walls might stop it falling far, but I've never heard of one toppling.
Assuming a 250 litre cylinder, it will weigh over 1/4 of a tonne when full. Placed on a suitable platform to spread the weight over the requisite number of joists, and preferably over a load bearing wall, it would take a pretty hefty shove to move it.0 -
Unless your ceiling joists have been upgraded they are only rated to hold your ceiling up not support a 320 kg cylinderI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
I've just had my Boiler and and an Unvented 250litre cylinder put in the loft.
I need up with a structural engineers report recommending a pretty hefty platform made up to support it. No steelwork needed but 2 lots of triple bolted together 8x2 6 metres long across the width of the house with a central load bearing wall. Those who risk nothing, Do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothingMFW #63 £0/£5000
