Sse Homecare

I just wanted to warn people to make sure that they really make sure that they are covered after the horrible experience I just had.
Following my boiler service (boiler was fine) they detected a leak at the meter. I had my gas meter closed for safety but that is when they fun started. The boiler engineers could not help as the pipe was underground. They suggested I call the sgn meter people who also wouldn't touch it because it was the pipe.i was left in the situation of no heating and no plan to get it sorted. They did leave a couple of fan heaters which was nice as it was November.
My homecare policy clearly stated that the pipe between the boiler and the meter was part of the plan so I called the sse homecare people again. It said it exactly in those words so not open to interpretation. They sent out an engineer who said no he wouldn't fix it and the solution was a new boiler system.
I called a third party from the yellow pages(OK Google) who fixed it for a few hundred pounds.
I called the homecare team who explained that my pipe was not covered as it was under the floor. I explained that I had had never had that explained to me and it clearly stated on the policy that it was covered and I was obviously mis-sold a product. They quickly refunded me this year's money and cancelled the policy. So my warning is check that all aspects are covered as you may find that you are in my case after paying for the full package and thinking you have security being left high and dry and having to pay for yellow pages engineers. To add insult to injury two weeks later I got a letter from Sse saying that they would like to replace my meter with a smart meter as my meter was getting old. As they wouldnt/couldn't do anything with the meter I feel like they are trying to coerce people in to letting them replace the meters - Needless to say I filed that letter in the bin!

You are out of pocket as you had to pay for the repair yourself. It might be worth looking at your buildings insurance policy to see whether you have cover there. A few years ago when a similar thing happened in my daughter's house (underground gas pipe damaged between meter and cooker) I used my buildings insurance helpline to find a suitable contractor to sort it out, which did involve a completed newly routed pipe. The repair was eventually paid for by the company who had damaged the pipe while installing a cooker!
