What does this problem message mean?

When I fire up the pc,it goes straight to this box message on screen;
"Not optimum mode.
Recommended mode
1280x1024 60HZ
?"
The only way to get out of it is to switch the pc off and start again.
However,if I switch the power off and on at the wall the pc usually starts ok.
Any thoughts?

Seems like a possible problem with the graphics card or the monitor.
What screen resolution and refresh rate is it currently set at?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650 -
I'm guessing it's an LCD monitor. LCD monitors have a preferred resolution, that message is coming up because you have it set to a different resolution. Ideally you should change your resolution in your graphics/video settings to that resolution."She is quite the oddball. The computer is set to a resolution that either the graphics card or monitor is rejecting, and thus reconfigures itself/restarts check the documentation for both the monitor and the card (if known) to see what resolution and refresh rates they both comfortably support in par with each other. With this in mind when it is set to an optimum for both the card and the monitor you should receive no further messages.
I forgot to say (doh)
If you start the PC up and keep tapping F8 and select VGA mode(assuming the system is using XP)
You can set the resoltuion to that, that the system is recommending (in the error above). Restart and load into normal mode and it should then be all OK. FAiling that, consult the supplierLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
I had exactly this problem a couple of months ago.
It is a known issue with LCD monitors, I had my 19" swapped out for a new one under its 3 year warranty from Samsung.
If yours is still under warranty get it changed.
