Rant about Ernest Jones

So having spent a not inconsiderable amount of money on 2 Platinum Wedding rings at Ernest Jones some time ago, we both went in today to collect after they had been engraved.
We spent a great deal of time on choosing rings and then on what we wanted engraved and which font etc with the them.
A special day to some extent, having waited some time for them to locate the rings we were presented with them but could not quite see the engraving which is on the inside of the bands, so they provided a loupe to view them and then a hand written piece of paper with what was engraved, to our horror the date written on the paper was wrong and yes the date on the rings was wrong as well.
When we ordered the rings and the paperwork was completed for the engraving it was the correct date, so my question is do we just accept them buffing out the wrong date by removing Platinum and re engrave or should we ask for new rings.

I would refuse them upfront.
Once you start asking things to be changed, where does it end. Ask yourself how much faith do you have that this will be done correctly?
Stick with what you ordered or ask for a refund0 -
I agree. Refuse them and start again. Elsewhere.0

You have 30 days to reject the goods outright for a full refund.
You may be required to demonstrate the goods do not confirm but that is a given. You don't have to accept a repair.
do you have written or photographic proof the rings are wrong? If not try to get something asap.
Once they refund it's worth going to an independent jeweller, your money will go much further. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
refuse them, as not fit for purpose - what was agreed.
OR have them fix with a hefty refund, as you say they will be losing "weight" of the precious metal when they clean em up!
theyll still be quids in tbf, mark up on jewlery is insane!0
