You actually need to check that the opening readings used by your new supplier and readings that were used on your final bill are the same.
Frequently the readings might differ slightly from the ones you actually sent in usually due to the timing between when you sent the reading in and the actual date of the swap.
However both suppliers should be using the same numbers on their bills so you don't end up underpaying or paying twice for the same energy.
What are the readings that your new supplier is actually using - check your on-line account.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
