Sports Direct - Trainers

Options
A pair of men's trainers were purchased on 1st August this year. They have already split at the toe. They were about £35 so cheap and no doubt made in China.

I know - you get what you pay for.

Is it worth paying a lot more for a pair of better made trainers - although who is to say they are better made? Perhaps wiser to purchase some walking boot type shoes from an outdoor shop which may last longer?

What do other MSE's think?

Can anyone recommend other trainers/walking shoes that don't wear out after 5 months?

As it is less than 6 months from purchase then the law (Consumer Rights Act 2015) says that they are inherently faulty, and the seller must prove otherwise if they wish to deny you a remedy (repair, replace, refund).

If they opt for a refund then it must be 100% - they cannot reduce the refund until more than 6 months have elapsed.

Did you buy them online or in store ? Try go outdoors for walking boots.
  • I tend to wear Adidas as they support my long narrow feet well, but just the cheap, older styles out of Sports Direct usually £20-30. I have about 5 pairs, the oldest over 3 years old, the newest I bought last February. I wear trainers nearly every day and they are all still in one piece.

It depends how often you want to wear them and what sort of wear you are getting from them, pavement/road walking is different to off-road/trail walking. Will you be running in them at all? Will you be wearing them for an hour everyday or several hours once or twice a week? Do you do the bare minimum walking (between car and building) or do you walk several miles a day? Will they be your only/main shoe or do you have multiple pairs that you cycle through for different needs? Do you have an unusual wear pattern on the soles? Do you scuff your feet a lot when you walk?

Trainers are better for some situations and walking boots are better for others.p, there's no one size fits all. It could be that the trainers you bought just happened to be poorly made cheap tat and a better pair would be more suitable or they could have been the wrong type of shoe for your use and even the best made most expensive ones would fail just as quickly.

No running whatsoever! But lots of walking. Him indoors has seen some walking shoes for £70.00 in Winfield. Not sure what to do. Its a risk if they turn out to wear out as quickly as the cheapos. Will ask about any kind of return if they do wear out quickly.

What were you wearing the trainers for ?

You mention walking shoes, buy something suited for the job needed, try Go Outdoors for walking shoes.

For trainers Im going to suggest Skechers, I wear a pair pretty much every day I bought 2 years ago and they are still going strong, even bought a second pair as they are so good.

Reebok classics are not too expensive, very comfy and they last for ever
  • Thanks for the suggestions. Will have a look in the sales.
