can flannel bedding be tumble dried

I’ve never had a tumble dryer even when there were six of us to ‘do for’ And now with just two of us I don’t see the point. I just drape sheets over the doors when we go to bed, smaller stuff goes on the clothes horse on the landing and soon dries.0

each to their own happy one. I have no wish for mold in my house hence the tumble drier if I cannot get dry outside, which is always my first choice0

What does the label say, pattypan4? My cotton Habitat set has the 'do not tumble dry' symbol.0

Mine says ok to tumble on gentle and it has been very successful. It really is heavyweight cotton but I gave it a very good extra spin at 2400 revs and then tumbled half at a time on the delicates setting, I did 2 sessions of each for a total of 1 hour and 49 minutes. My tumbler has an auto sensor which knocked an hour off the second session. Bed is part made and honestly it feels as soft as the fleece and there is plenty of room so no or very little shrinkage.. The duvet cover has around 10 minutes left and I will be able to finish the bed. Then later will come the test. I woke up about 4 times last night, had to keep turning and every turn must have made more static. These sets were from the linen cupboard and were not cheap. I did get a couple of cheap northern nights sets from a seller on ebay. I am perhaps expecting them to go bobbly in time. Its a pretty fair test tbh, it has rained all day and I have coped with washing and drying in a day
I have woolroom mattress cover and a woolroom duvet and now back to the cotton bedding0 -
I have used flannel for many years in the past and never had bobbly bedding. I regret the day I went to fleece and gave the flannel away but so be it. The flannel I am expecting is very good (expensive) quality. Flannelette is different to brushed cotton, which can and does bobble. Brushed cotton is the cheapest and is only brushed on one side
It will be here in a couple of hours and I have set my underfloor heating in the kitchen to a higher temperature. A good long spin at 2400 revs and it could well mostly dry on the airer, to be finished on delicate in the tumbler
Believe you me, my brushed cotton isn't just brushed on one side, nor was it cheap0 -
gosh I didn`t mean to imply that brushed cotton is only cheap, it can also be pricey too

there is also winceyette, I think that is what we had on our beds when we were children.
Bobbling is caused by short staples (fibres) found in cheaper cottons. Makes sense, it will be a miracle if the northern nighs flannelette doesn`t eventually bobble.0 -
Mine is 100% cotton and no bobbles yet - its about 12 years old
Brushed cotton is the new term for flannel
Maybe it was the galvanised ponch tub and the mangle that caused the 'bobbling' on my Grandma's sheets.0 -
northern nights has arrived and it is very thin in comparison, brushed only on the underside. It does say tumble cool, its not going to last, sigh, buy cheap buy twice comes to mind. It will do fine for the transitional seasons and being thin will certainly dry faster but that is the only upside, I expect bobbles in time even though my wm has a honeycomb drum0

Tumbling is going to be the worst thing for bobbling. Unfortunately drying on low will mean it's in there even longer ..0
-
yes agreed. Going to try and make these NN ones last a bit longer. I don`t need them for now so will air dry these. Tumbler is relatively new to me, haven`t had one for many years. I got one with a gentle drum but would still risk bobbling with short cotton staples0
