Hi, can I please get some advice?
I was with Scottish gas for about a year on a dual fuel tariff and then decided to switch to an electricity only tariff in February as I started to get some work done on the house and wouldn't be using the central heating. I actually forgot that I had switched to an electricity only tariff, and started to put the central heating on a timed cycle from about September. I was emailed by Scottish power for my meter readings, so I went to do this today and realised I wasn't able to enter my gas readings and then also found that I was on the electricity only tariff. I rang them up to sort out hoe to pay and also find out who was supplying the gas if I was only on an electricity tariff with them- they checked and they said that a company called Robin Hood had taken it over though they don't have my details, I have had absolutely no correspondence though the door to say that they were supplying my energy and haven't paid any bills to them. Their phone lines are closed right now but I just wanted some advice on how to sort this out when I call them tomorrow as I don't want to pay whatever tariff they have had me on as I haven't agreed to be with them or to be paying whatever I owe them. Can companies just take over your gas supply without letting you know? What are my rights? Thanks

All Robin Hood's customers, especially the poorer ones, will be only too happy to pay handsomely to subsidise you and will consider it to be a privilege.0 -
Yes, of course you have every right to get away scot-free and not have to pay a penny in standing and usage charges.

I'm reading the OP as the OP being mainly concerned about what tariff they are on and how this happened and not an attempt to avoid paying, so how about keeping the nasty and hasty comments to yourself.
To the OP. Its not possible to switch from a dual fuel tariff to just electric because the gas supply has to go somewhere so something has gone wrong somehow. I'd start by checking the meter number is correct, which can be found on a previous bill. Then phone Robin Hood. If they have trouble finding you on there system give them the meter number or numbers and that should help resolve the issue.

I don't fully understand what you mean by being on a dual fuel tariff, and then transferring to a single fuel tariff.
But to answer your question, no companies cannot just take over your gas supply. If you have not applied to any other supplier, you should still be supplied by Scottish Power.
You should call Scottish Power, explain that your gas supply has been taken over bu another supplier without your conset, and request Scottish Power sort it out for you. You should be put back into a position you would have been in had the erroneous transfer not have occurred.
As I said, I don't fully understand what you tried to do last February, but unless you agreed something different, I suspect you will be charged on Scottish Power's standard variable tariff, which is not cheap.0 -
Also, just remind Scottish Power that if they don't sort out the erroneous transfer in 20 days (from the date of you reporting it) then they will have to pay you GSOP compensation. I think it's £20 - but better than nothing
As per above from JuneS though, I do wonder what you mean exactly when you say you transferred to a single fuel tariff?
Did you have the gas capped (disconnected) temporarily then?0 -

You see, you've just given yourself away again there.
Oh, and you are wrong again (based on the facts given in this thread)
Looks like a trait of yours. You've started using a 10 year old user account for the purposes of posting misinformation.0 -
I've had some updates: apparently Robin hood energy took over supplying my gas in February (though I received no correspondence about this) and when i told them this they said well the previous owners would have been with us which I know not to be true as I have been there for 5 years and before being with Scottish power was with E-ON for a few years, and when I moved in the previous owners were with Scottish Power. I'm not really sure where to go with this as obviously I owe them money for the gas I have used since September - but I also didn't agree to join Robin hood energy! The customer service team were horrendous, they told me several times that I didn't owe them anything and that I wasn't with them, National grid told me that I was, I rang back robin hood who said they actually were supplying my energy but I didn't owe them anything, I then got an email the next day saying welcome to Ebico (a partner company I believe) and saying that I owed them an estimated bill of £80, but will probably be more once I've supplied my meter reads. I've supplied my meter reads now but just wondering am I able to ask them to reduce this bill as I didn't agree to be with them? They also registered me when I rang and officially set me up with an account and said I'd need to pay an exit fee if I left them before Feb 2021. I had to do this in order to receive a bill from them0

OP, you can find out who the national database thinks is your gas supplier here: I have just tried it on my address and it returned the correct information. You can also discover your meter reference point or whatever it's called, which you could check against your bills (if you have any) and use to determine which of all these random energy suppliers actually has your account.
