Lloyds TSB phone call ****possible scam***?

Just had an automated call supposedly from LLoyds TSB referring to me by my full name which I almost never use except on official accounts etc. The caller (who sounded foreign) said it was a security alert call not a sales or marketing call. I was then told to press button 1if I was ***** button 2 if not. I just put the phone down and tried 1471 but it was number witheld.
I rang TSB call centre who confirmed they had not contacted me and then I rang CC services who confirmd the same thing. Both agents however took the opportunity to try to sell me PRIVACY PROTECT INS @ £6.99 per month per person  in case I was ever the victim of identity fraud......which I felt was playing on my "fears" and making money out of a bad situation.
Is this insurance needed? or in cases of fraud are you not already comprehensively covered by the banking code? I would be interested to know other peoples thoughts on this. I declined the offer but should I have
However every cloud has a silver lining because whilst I was on the phone the CC services dept asked if I was interested in BT....so they offered me 12 months at 0% which cheered up my afternoon!!!:T .
So be aware someone is out there purporting to be Lloyds TSB.....

I am getting up to 5 calls a day from these too - what is really strange is that they are asking for the guy who previously lived in our house over 3 years ago?Our dream has come true...0

Possibly a debt collection agency trying to trace a debt?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Any so-called security call that doesnt leave its contact number has to be suspect. As above,do you have any old debt going back 5 or six years you thought had been forgotten about?
I seemed to get several iffy/annoying phone calls(including lloyds insurance sales) after I used insurance comparison sites -I think you give your permission to being contacted as a condition of using them-i presume they just sell your details on,and on.0 -
I had one today, don`t know which bank. It asked me to press buttons and answer questions or something like that. I don`t listen to it. We have lots of sale people ringing us all the time with the usual YOUR POSTCODE CAME UP Hmm, I don`t thing so mate we , are exdirectory. Obviously my bank sold them my number! They are B******s. I usually chat to them sweetly as though I am interested this relly P*** them Off ha, ha. Or put my kids on an tell them to talk their second lamguage, prettend it`s grandma. The sales put it down in no time. They are paying for it!!!
Remember never answer any questions. My rule is if I want something I will get it , I will ring them.
If your bank wants they will eventually wright to you if they can`t get hold of you.
I declined lots of offers like free lg phone, new kitchen , holidays etc... If offer is too good to be true then it brobbaly is.0 -

Obviously my bank sold them my number!
Why do you think that or did you mean to say you assume?0
