Barclays cashback ... or not.

I suppose it depends on retailer but how long do you wait on cashback being paid up? I'm yet to receive a single one. I'm receiving the 2x £7 per month but nothing for using my card with specific retailers.

End of August was the first one.

Thorntons, Hotel Chocolat, Wilkos, Dominos, JD Sports .... no cashback from any of them, yet they're listed under the retailers that give cashback.

I don't have experience with cashback at Barclays but I have used
Quidco and Topcashback for years. Cashback payment are rarely fast. It can take several months for the money to actually get paid. I recently had one paid after 19 months. Consider it a bonus rather than a saving. Obviously, you could ask Barclays where your cashback is - perhaps it's all waiting for you somewhere?

Don't know about Barclays but with Lloyds retailer cashback offers for using their credit or debit card (everyday offers) the cashback appears after a couple of days and the cashback for the month is credited to my account on a monthly basis.
  • I've used all those mentioned as well as Halifax too and they've all been quicker than this.

The JD Sports and Dominos transactions were via their website where i entered my card details, the Thorntons and Willkos ones were in store.

So unless JD & Dominos only accept in store transactions and Thorntons & Wilkos only accept online transactions then i don't know what's taking so long for anything to show at all.
  • Barclays works the same as Quidco for online payments. You have to go via the rewards link in the app or after you have logged into internet banking.

Like Quidco it can take a few months for the cashback to be paid into the blue rewards wallet. It doesn’t work the same as Halifax/ Lloyds.

Barclays uses a cookie session to track your purchase, whereas Halifax track the card transaction.

Are these "rewards" that you have to activate and then make a card purchase?
Or ones where you go via a website?

If a card purchase, are you using a card such as Curve that is handling the transaction?

If via a website, make sure cookies are not blocked and you are not using an ad-blocker as this will prevent you from getting the cashback tracked.

Thanks, i wasn't aware of this. That will be why nothing has happened then as i thought it operated similar to the Halifax one. I thought all i had to do was simply use the debit card & i'd get the cashback.

I've just checked the Blue Rewards offers in my Barclays app, and the ones you've listed are all online offers, so you won't get anything from Thorntons or Wilkos as you went into the stores instead of ordering online.

For the online offers you must go through the link in the Blue Rewards section of the app, -going direct to the shop's website will not work, not even if you pay with your Barclays debit card.

The cashback offers (from the ones you mention) are: Thorntons 4%, Hotel Chocolate 6%, Wilko 1 %, Dominos 1% and J D Sports 1%.

They are rubbish - I've yet to find anything particularly competitive.

The whole Blue Rewards scheme is fairly convoluted with the fee and separate Blue Rewards wallet/ quasi-account.

Once the Double Rewards expire, I'll be off.
