Do employers have to tell you if the job is zero hours?

Sadly you have to be really on the ball with this. I have got right up to the day before an interview being repeatedly told the position is full time or permanent & even though i asked from day one if it was zero hours, they evaded it right to the last minute.
I've even been sat in an interview and accepted a job before because they kept the pretence going til the contract arrived on my doorstep and said 'zero hours'.
It's diabolical and should be abolished. Companies should be made to tell the truth before you get offered an interview & stop deceiving people pretending they are offering something they are not.
Do companies have to tell you? No, they don't. Should they have to tell you? Most definitely yes. You should have the choice wether you want to have your time wasted with an interview for a zero hours job, not be lied to & deceived until the contract drops on your doorstep.0 -
No, they need to pay her for the work done so far.
If they refuse she can put a claim through the small claims court (via money claim online). Don't bother with an employment tribunal, small claims will be easier.
They're also breaking the law around National Minimum Wage, so make them aware of this too“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0
