CC refund by Hotel in USA - Exchange rate and Interest costs?

IMHO TT has the correct answer (as usual).
If the transaction is unauthorised, then you are entitled to be refunded in full. Your CC must "make it happen", taking the hit themselves if necessary.
Afterall, taking an extreme example, let's say my credit card details are sent to Bogata and a large transaction is put through. A few days later the local authorities bust the gang and refunds issued. First I know is when I see my statement when both transactions show up. Should I take a hit because in those few days the Peso weakened? Likewise if interest was running during those few days, that should be refunded on the basis that it should never have been charged in the first place.
On the other hand, if you take goods back to a shop for a refund, then that's another matter. The original transaction was correct. If the transaction was in foreign currency then on obtaining a refund you might make a currency loss/gain.
I suppose the complicating factor here is that the card details were left with the hotel so that there was some sort of authority to charge the card. But the authority was misused, so in my view the transaction was unauthorised.0 -

I'll just accept that, and am just glad that the majority of the charge has been reversed.
Cheers for all the comments/advice.
I would still send an email to their customer relations - you never know they might refund more to your card as a gesture of goodwill.0 -
Are you a member of their reward scheme (Hilton Honors)
I would definitely contact Hilton customer relations and the hotel too and see if they will issue you extra reward points - if nothing else.
The Hotel is likely to be a franchise. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Getting something out of HHonors can be a pain. I didn't get anywhere with my complaint and lost £20 on exchange difference. And in my case you can say it was unauthorised transaction, because reservation was cancelled before arrival and within T&C.0

I am a Hilton Honours member, and I've (politely) emailed the customer care team at Hilton, just confirming receipt of my cleared refund and thanking the hotel for dealing with that issue promptly, but also noting that there was a shortfall on the refund to the original charge due to the exchange rate.
They say they have forwarded it to the hotel management team, who will respond within 3 days.
I'm not holding my breathe for anything more, but will be interesting to see if they do offer anything as a goodwill gesture.
Brother-in-law who travelled with us has also received notice of a refund for the room charges to his CC too, and we wait to see if there's any/how much shortfall on his refund.0
