    I disagree
My understanding is that when you make a complaint to the ombudsman two new things will happen
The institution will ask someone senior to review so they are not paying the £500 fee ( or what ever it is) which helps concentrate the mind
and the ombudsman will give the institution an indicative ruling

Both scenarios will happen very soon after the complaint

It's an urban myth that each and every FOS will mean a fee is payable by the Financial Institution. Larger institutions pay a quarterly group fee which, unless actual complaints are much higher, will cover them.

FOS won't give any sort of ruling, indicative or otherwise, unless or until they've had a chance to review the facts with all parties concerned. The lead time before even picking cases up is typically several months and anecdotally is significantly worse than that at the moment....

    Hi,

You don`t say exactly what the status of the account is, you just say its "destroying your credit rating", so what exactly is it been reported as, being in default, arrangement to pay, delinquent, other ?

You have done the right thing by sending a written complaint, hopefully that will result in a positive outcome, usually a bank will make a gesture of goodwill, without admiting any liablity, but wait and see what they say.

You do have the option of using the FOS, but as this is partially a data issue, you may be able to complain to the ICO as well.

What is seems is that the overdrawn Halifax account has sat there dormant for 5 years, permanently overdrawn, thankfully not gathering any fees but month by month destroying my credit rating.

What evidence do you have to support this assetion?
My husband and I intend to buy a new house in the next year, ironically I can provide a 30-40% deposit but probably can't get a mortgage as my score is so poor.

    As above.
My score with Experian was excellent

Seems there's little to be concerned with.

Clear the balance and the matter will be sorted. As doesn't appear that you've suffered a default.
