Hi
I've just received a default notice on a direct debit which failed last Wednesday It suggests in the letter its not only a default sum but a default notice. 4 days to issue such a demand which will now put me back six years. I've worked so hard to keep myself clean and now this.
My DD failed with Close Brothers car insurance on the 10th Dec received letter today (16th). Immediately paid the outstanding amount but not sure what I can do to avoid this. Can they issue default notices that quick?
All previous payments were made this is the first time this has happen
Need advise please

It doesn't sound like a default, just notification of the sum in arrears, which also uses the word default.
You may get a late payment marker but nothing worse but check your files to be sure. It won't 'put you back 6 years' but do try to stay on top of payments going forward.0 -
Thank you so much for your reply I did assume this when i first read the letter but it was termed "Default notice and Notice of Default Sum" which has scarred me to death after all I've done to keep on the straight and narrow. It was the last payment on the schedule and once I noticed it I paid it immediately, policy now fully paid for.
The call centre lady said it was a default but having tried to get clarification she confused me even more - still don't know where I stand with them.0 -
Defo not a default but more importantly ive never had car insurance on my credit files. Are you sure they are reporting to your credit files?0

Car Insurance or Car Finance?
It may be a late marker that is applied if it is the only missed/late payment in a row0 -
Lady said it would be marked on my Experian file - Can't tell you how much stress this has caused me today. Thank you for your help.0

i think she is telling you porkies. Ive had car insurance with several different companies over the last 15 years and never once had they appeared on my credit file.
Unless someone has experienced anything different0 -
Hi
Thanks for helping me out - it is car insurance. These people have created a situation which when questioned they don't seemed to know the full answer too. I asked whether it was a "default sum" or a "default notice" Which I asked her for her clarification.
I have been paying monthly installments - never missed a payment
Thanks0 -
Some car insurances do report to CRA's if you are paying monthly.
But that's irrelevant here - one missed payment will be a missed payment, not a default.0 -
Thank you for this - They just don't make things that clear or the training is lacking. I've left a request for a manager to ring me, surprisingly said it would be up to two days for them to call.
People with anxiety issues could fall victim to this type of notice.0 -
Checked my credit file the company is on my CF0
