Turning the mains water off /boilers

With regard to combi/condensing boilers . Does the boiler actually need the mains on to function , for example if shut it off when you were away a few days ?
It's maybe a bit of a daft question as I do understand it's a closed system and that you only seem to need to let mains water in through the valve if the pressure has dropped .

If you are going to the bother of turning off water, you would want to turn off heating & hot water too?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

So the boiler won't operate with the mains stop tap off if I wanted to leave heating to come on for an hour or two each
day ?
I usually do switch both off . as turning the mains off prevents major flooding if say a compression joint parted as happened to a neighbour while they were away .0 -

You can leave boiler on. The boiler will have low pressure protection and will switch off if the pressure falls."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Great , Thank you . I've always turned both off but many people don't seem to bother doing either . , there seem to be plenty fail safes on modern boilers , whereas the mains can give a lot of grief if there's a burst or leak.0

I use hive to program frost free temperature to save fuel whilst I am away and turn heat and water back on before I return."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
