Unscrupulous Solicitor firm cheating on Stamp Duty Payment- Advice needed please

tbf, they did call themselves 'Property Lawyers'. Even I got caught out. They came recommended, were really efficient, did the job quickly, and responded to emails and were generally (apparently) very good.
I will certainly look into actual credentials next time. Lesson learned to me.
A really good part of a campaign would be to point out that these guys are styling themselves Property Lawyers, and members of the public are being misled. Solicitor is a protected word, but lawyer isn't.
I have, in the past, run a campaign against an insurance company which was widely known to have admin issues. There was no trouble at all getting lots of press articles, and the company did indeed sort out its admin issues. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
If I were you, I'd form an action group of people in the same position. (If you can't find any, don't worry. A one man action group still works.)
Then issue lots of press releases along the following lines:
1. It's now 6 years, and you still have the stress and anxiety.
2. The worst mistake you ever made was using a licensed conveyancer, rather than a solicitor. Say that you hadn't realised the difference, but the CLC oversight has proved ineffective, and their compensation scheme has left you in the lurch.
Effectively, you need to run an anti-marketing campaign for licensed conveyancers, recommending solicitors instead.
Thank you!! CLC is not replying to my chasing email on the 6 years rule. this makes me and wife even more worried. This may be the delaying tactics.
Your Action Group Anti-marketing campaign is an excellent idea. I have never done this before. Could you advise to whom I issue the regular Press Release and at what which media. Sorry for the naive questions.0 -

Thank you for sharing your successful story. Please could you let me know at which Forum you run Action Group Press releases to get the Insurance company to sort out their problems.0 -

I did this 25 years ago, and I issued press releases by post. I sent them to the insurance trade press, as that was appropriate for me. You need the national newspapers, but don't forget about the local rags, particularly in the area where these guys worked.
These days, I guess these things are issued by email.
I suggest starting off with an announcement about founding the Action Group.
Subsequently, you'd have an announcement of you as chairman calling for reform of the CLC.
Then one that people like HazyJo may not even know that there's a problem. This may all have been hidden from them.
And so on.
Each press release would include all the background information, to set it in context. It would also include a picture of you, as chairman, and some choice quotations from you.
Mr Chang (Chairman of the Action Group) said:
"Our members are desperately worried about what is going on."
"Members had no idea that they were not dealing with proper lawyers."
"I'm sure that the Law Society would not have left our members in this position. We all desperately wish we had used a solicitor."
"The oversight of licensed conveyancers is utterly inadequate."
And so on.
You'd include quotations appropriate to the particular press release, not the whole lot each time.
