idiot q about cleaning screen

I only have household stuff to hand but I don't ant to wreck this new laptop. What is the least damaging non-smudging thing to clean the screen with? (used to use damp cloth on old screen but it always smudged) stupid question but I want to make sure i'm doing the right thing with the new laptop-ta
