the keys to cheaper insurance seem to be
    * newer car but not brand new
    * mid range not high power low power
    * don't use confused.com

So still painful but no longer extortionate
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Also helps if you pick a model of car for which parts are cheaply/readily available, which keeps repair costs down.

Personally I have 2 of the most unusual cars in the country so I didn't take my own advice, but luckily I haven't pranged either of them (touch wood etc).

Probably a post code thing. You'd have to be insane to offer insurance on a keyless Fiesta around here, unless the premium was more than the value of the car. :D
All keyless Ford's round here, especially "performance" ones. That's was from a specialist insurer.

    Hi
VAN - 2018/9 - had his own delivery van - separately insured - (no car insurance) with one small bump - reported but not claimed on /QUOTE]

If its been reported it will get a loading as having 1 bump (even not claimed) means you are far more likely to have another one in insurance terms.
    Stupid but there you go.

We did press direct line, but they are not going to give too much away
Are you just trying onesy-twosy random insurers individually? Or have you tried a comparison site?

That helped as well, but independently of the other savings

Tried all the comparison sites, only Hastings came close, and I have personal experience that suggested my other choice was better

Yes, he has had it closed down now, all paperwork was in place, but it did effect his NCD so he is now on 0 instead of 4

That does not tie in with this:

    UNLESS...

By "reported but not claimed on", you mean that he didn't claim for his damage - but the damage he caused to somebody else's property was claimed for and paid out.

So he's got zero NCD and a recent at-fault claim against him.
    Yep, that'll do it.
