Universal credit , boiler grant . Rock in a hard place

Howdy!
Boilers ! Boilers ! Boilers !
I was gonna post this in the in my home thread . I'll try here first.
I have posted various topics about the hassles I have had with my boiler , especially over the last month .
I am stuck , and not sure how to proceed :

The ins co I use to service boiler refuse to service it any longer.
Reasons : Emergency engineer says it needs power flush , and another thing not covered in policy magnetic filter . We're talking around £500
There are parts needed on top of that . He told me to get a new boiler .
I asked him for a quote via email . No response there .
However, as we both agreed that it's best to get new boiler , he won't condemn it . I have got it working for the moment for approx 12 days adjusting the pressure .

Apparently , the boiler has to be deemed not working before universal help, if at all .
I have a phone call with eon ( I'm with edf who won't help) , and they will go through the usual questions . I don't mind paying towards the eco system and getting a discount but am stuck as to how to proceed.
It seems that I actually have to wait until it just stops altogether .

Is there a way where someone can see sense and just replace it sooner rather than later due to the amount I've spent ,and issues raised by ins co and engineer ?

Thanks

  • I think I might have told you in another thread that we got a new boiler free of any charges through ECO, it wasn't that old and it was working but energy wise inefficient, I think it has to be over 8 years old in general, we had no hassle and from start to finish it took about 8 weeks, have you contacted ECO?

There are other options where you pay monthly for a new boiler over e.g 5 years the payments usually being less than an insurance policy for a boiler.

Ah, yes you did venison :)
I can't remember if I've been on this website already. I've been on a lot
If I get no joy with eon, then this is the next website I'll be trying .
Will let you know how it goes

I'd have my doubts about " it needs a powerflush and magnetic filter" it's a classic sell on to make money.

If he won't condemn it and he got it working without " the parts it needs " I also have my doubts about that

Good point , but I've been through the mill with this boiler . I've posted a few topics on the in my home section .
If I had a lot more expensive boiler cover which included those things in the policy , it probably wouldn't be an issue .
I haven't really had a definitive answer from the various people I saw
It seems impossible to find 'reputable 'engineers.
  • I have just received phone call back from eon regarding the eco scheme . I don't want to tempt fate etc , but it does look like at the very least I will have an engineer visit me and assess the situation .
I would say that if I'm allowed a new boiler , I would have to pay £250? Or so . If there are new pipes required etc I would have to pay for those too.
If I did get a new boiler , I would have to wait approx 6 weeks.
So, basically it seems that I have to go on what the engineer tells me in his assessment when he sees me .
This is the nearest I've got yet .
