Help with choosing a new laptop

Help!! Am stumped!

I bought an ASUS Viviobook on Cyber Monday.
It was delivered the following Thursday, however it developed a charging fault, so I contacted the retailer to organise a return (they unfortunately did not have any units that they could swap it with at the time), I have therefore been searching (in vain) for an alternative.

That is where I have come a cropper, I don't know what to get (I seem to remember that HP and ASUS along with LENOVO seemed to come out best in a survey I remember seeing on here previously, but can't remember what the survey was about)!

It needs to have an SSD (preferably 256 or better)

I would like a unit without a dvd player (I never used it, so can't see why I would start now)

It needs to have a charging point on the left (due to where it would sit - although this isn't a deal breaker)

I keep hearing TN and IPS screens ( does having an IPS really make that much difference)?

The screen should be 15.6" (I've always had a number pad to right of the keyboard, so not too sure what going to a 14" (and no number keypad would feel like has anyone gone from a larger display to a smaller one and if yes, how did it feel)?

I previously (before the Vivobook) had an i5 processor (think it was 2nd gen if that makes any difference), not too sure if with the way of processing power nowadays, if an i3 could cope or should I be looking at i5's (or equivalent Ryzen chips)

I believe I had 8Gb (RAM) on my previous one, so not too sure how going smaller would help assist, so probably looking at that again (unless of course (an otherwise) fantastic machine comes with 4Gb and it can be ungraded easily)

I use it for converting digital files mainly (so would need to handle that) and the usual browsing etc

It should cost circa £400 (if much higher (cost-wise), I would need to look at Buy It Now - Pay Later options) until I get the refund back from the retailer for the returned unit (I have looked at their site and they only seem to currently offer gaming laptops (don't game on it so pointless spending extra when it's going to be used), Celeron based devices (believe the chip would not be able to cope with what I intend to use it for) or items out of my price range (for what it would be used for)!

Any suggestions?

TIA

Sometimes I wonder...
"why is that frisbee getting bigger?"
...and then it hits me

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
