    Totally agree, most heat loss is cause by short run offs which leave lots of hot water sitting in the pipework to get cold.

    We only heat water for a couple of hours a day because the heatpump cant do hot water and heating simultaneously. Our 200l tank lasts easily for a couple of 2-3 minute showers and any other hot water that we use during the day.(we can manage another couple of showers if we need to) It consumes around 2kwh/day during the winter and 1.5kwh in the summer. Hot water is actually quite cheap but easy to waste

    As has been said, it mainly heating that consumes most of it so it;'s worth monitoring what uses it al and working out when it's being used.
    Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
