Reloading annoyance

I keep a couple of tabs open on Android chrome. Thing is when ever I select one of them it reloads the page. The problem is when I'm on the tube, on a plane etc where there isn't a connection I lose the data on the page until I'm reconnected. This is a right royal PITA.
Is there a way to stop chrome reloading the page and just show what was originally on the page?
Thanks.
